We camped at Ute Pass and tried hiking Ute Peak to no avail. There was a sign at the trailhead that stated a mere 5.5 miles to the Ute Peak Summit. Pfft. There's not much to say about this trip. We circled the sub-treeline mound trying to find any hint of a trail. We never found one. It was just trees followed by more fallen trees. We hiked, then turned around for camp and ate once we all gathered again. Mmmmm, fajitas were good. Stupid trail ... His Dad is Border collie so he's 1/2 and his Mum is 1/2 Siberian Husky 1/2 German shepherd. I'm picking him up on the 27th. What I'm worried about is that I know that Sibes will run and run when they are off lead, but I'm not sure if he will or not as he is only a cross. Should I expect prey drive/running and treat him as if he's a Sibe and never let him off lead or do you think he might be ok? We are going to start clicker training and ... Watching weather every hour for weeks on end helps a little, but there's still no way of knowing what area is going to get the actual rain storm. A recent post online by a NOAA meteorologist shed some light on the % subject. He said that when you see "20% chance of rain", it means that 20% of the ground in that region should see measurable rainfall. I'm still not sure what "region" entails, ... I've put a deposit down on a 1/4 Sibe, 1/4 German Shepherd 1/2 border collie puppy and will be picking him up at the end of this month. In the future I do plan on getting a Sibe but not until we own our own house as everywhere only likes 2 pets (rented that I can find). In all of the Huskies/Malamutes I encounter I really only see two major personality types. The first and most prevalent is the standard crazy, high prey drive and exuberant sled dog (Ridik, Jack, Kosmo, Coco). The other is a super friendly, mostly laid back, quiet and easy to handle dog (Sioux, Sierra). Those are pretty broad generalizations, I'm not finding the right words to express this.
