Was wondering what you guys thought of them. If I hadn't decided on a Siberian Husky I would've loved to get one. For anyone who doesn't know they are a purebred German Shepherd (proved by DNA testing). It's just a genetic mutation that happened with a litter and they found breeding a black shepherd with a panda made it reoccur.

This is actually a pretty controversial subject in German Shepherd circles.  There's a lot of discussion about whether this an ethical breeding process or not.

I personally have a problem with breeders who breed solely for color rather than temperament or to standard or health.

Many breeders of pandas also register them with AKC as GSD (as black and tans), but then show them in the Rare Breed Association. That's pretty disingenuous.

The name is also a red flag. Instead of calling them tri-colored like other breeds, they went right for the $$$$ marketing name.

To me, it's just another way for breeders to market "rare" colors and charge more for people who don't know better.

I agree with what Anya said. To me it would be like a Sibe breeder advertising with "blue eyes, rare coloring, big huskies!" Those are red flags you want to stay away from. Although I'm not an expert in GSDs so if its a genetic mutation, is the coat really acceptable by breed standard? If it is acceptable and the breeder has health tested the parents and proved the worth in the ring, and bred the parents not for their coloring but for their structure and temperament and by chance got a puppy with that coloring, only then would I consider it.
