so I have 2 huskies. One which is about a year old (Luna) and another whose age is around 1-2 years (Hatchi). So our aunt gave us Hatchi when he was about a year old and she taught us how to teach him to sit. We tried this trick on both dogs and it only seemed to work on luna. The trick is that you put the food between their eyes and they will back up and will at some point sit down. As I said, this trick works on Luna and not on Hatchi. When we try to do it to Hatchi he just continues to back up. Is there another way to teach him how to sit?

When we were teaching Dragon we would hold a treat up and say "sit" until he finally sat down and when he did he got the treat. We also tried (gently) pushing his bottom down til he sat and then he would get the treat. Always say the command "Sit" or Sit down while getting him to sit and dont treat him until he does it. Eventually he will learn if he sits he gets rewarded with a treat or praise and soon he will do it whenever he hears the command. Even if we command him to sit and there is no treat, we ALWAYS praise him and tell him what a good dog he is and his tail goes to wagging. That way he knows he gets rewarded somehow.

If they keep backing up you can put your arm behind them right beneath their bottom while holding the treat up

Start with the treat in front of them and move it up and back (toward the dog). Do not say the command until the dog understand that you holding your hand in that position they need to sit. After they can understand the hand signal, THEN incorporate the word. Saying the word when the dog doesn't know what the word means can become confusing to the dog as it doesn't know what to do, or it can learn that the word means to stand there and stare at you.

About 90% of the time if you stand directly in front of a dog while they are looking at you and moving about, look down at them they will sit. Then just add the command to the action until the dog seems to click that the word you say means sit.

you can also gently curl their tail under them while give the command which encourages them to sit while also raising and moving the treat back.

Any time the dog makes the move to sit on its own, say sit and reward it. Make sure to have treats on you at all times. You can start when his butt goes down just a little bit. You can also gently push his butt down and say sit as you do it and reward him. Even if you have to do it while standing behind him, with someone in front of him to give him the treat for you.
