2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.

The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Senior husky is limping..also a Q about hernias Empty
PostSubject: Senior husky is limping..also a Q about hernias    Senior husky is limping..also a Q about hernias EmptySun Jul 07, 2013 11:58 pm

Today my husky baby started limping out of nowhere. It seems to be her front right arm. At first we thought maybe it was just 'asleep' from here laying on it while napping, but it's continued even thru this evening. There haven't been any significant events that I can think of that would have caused this. She does a little tug of war and playing with our younger Shiba Inu, gets up and down from the couch, runs and plays in the backyard, etc. Normal dog activity.

Is there anything I can do to help her out? I know it's silly, but would icing or a warming pad help? I just feel bad cause she's a little older now (~10yrs).

Also, this is unrelated to the above, but we recently discovered she may have a hernia. Have any of you had this experience with your husky or other dog? Took her to the vet and they biopsied it and said it was benign (in case it was/is a tumor), but that just because one sample from one area comes back benign, doesn't mean a different area of the mass could be something else. The vet assured us that it is probably just a hernia since her family pet has one, but also advised us to continue to watch it in case it changes size/shape/form.

Well, it seems like her general belly area is swollen/bloated. Although she's had up and Down issues with her weight so it's hard to sayid it's really swollen or just fat. We have been trying to monitor her food in take to control her weight and it has helped. Her normal weight is around 50 and her heavy weight is around 60. I'd guesstimate she's somewhere in the middle right now.should I be concerned about the hernia? Are there things I should look for??

Thanks for your help on advanced.

Did you check paw pads? When my seniors limp the vet says give them 2-3 days as long as they are putting some weight on it. Just slowing down and do not bounce back as quick. I just let them be and watch their activity. No experience with hernias.

Is she still limping maybe she pulled a muscle playing tug o war....if you could get her to keep a heat pad on that would probably make her feel better
