PostSubject: new puppy, now she has diarrhea    new puppy, now she has diarrhea EmptySun Jul 28, 2013 7:28 pm

hi everyone. I have a 10 week old husky pup. Her name is kida. I got her from a breeder this past tuesday, i kept her on the same food, feeding the same amount and at the same times. (1/2 cup at 7am and 7pm) she is up to date on shots, has been de wormed ect. I use the same vet as the breeder and took kida there a couple days ago on thursday. she got a clean check.

the last 2 days her poop has been loose in the morning, then almost like water during the day. she hasnt messed in the house and she goes out every 2 hours, uses the bathroom, and comes back in. she has been sneezing today and its sounding really really mucous-y.

I keep water out for her, so she wont get dehydrated as her gums were a little dry and sticky, but she eats when shes supposed to, and plays in the evening. but sleeps often. i'm not sure what to do...any ideas???

Puppies that age sleep a lot so I wouldn't worry about that. Its a little concerning the her gums are dry? It might be a parasite. You should drop off a stool sample at your vet!

ok, i know she was treated for worms by my vet a week before i got her, i'm just worried, i dont want anything to happen to her. her poop is looking a little more like runny pudding instead of water now...so im not sure if thats better or worse.

this back and forth thing with her poop everyday is confusing. poor kida!

I would definitely take in a stool sample, as Erica suggested. Even though she was wormed a week before you got her, it could still be a parasite not covered by the worm meds, or worms. They are pretty insidious and the treatment may have killed the adult worms, but not the eggs, so now those might be hatching. I went through that with my pup and only recently got him pooping consistently solid, fingers crossed it stays that way!!! The thing is, they pick up parasites and infections so easily that just because she had a clear stool a week ago, doesn't mean she didn't pick something up in that time. The other thing is an infection can go from bad to really bad pretty quickly, so you'll want to make sure you get her treated for something quickly. Once you know what you're dealing with you can make some educated steps in the right direction. Also, I doubt the sneezing is related to the diarrhea and Erica is right, puppies sleep a lot. Smile I would also suggest that 1 cup a day might not be enough for a growing puppy, but I wouldn't make any changes until you get her solid. Are you giving her any treats, or anything other than her dog food?

yes, she gets 1 treat when she goes into her kennel at night and lays down, and 1 treat when she potties outside. so maybe 4 a day total. and they are tiny treats. again the same that the breeder was using. I didnt want to change her scheduale, food, treats, or anything because i was changing her home. i didnt want her to be totally shell shocked. Smile is that possibly too many?
