2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. PostSubject: Holistic Vet   Holistic Vet EmptyTue Aug 13, 2013 12:47 am

Okay, so I have been wanting to switch to a holistic vet for a while now, but I am not sure what I am looking for in a 'good' holistic vet. I want a vet who will support me when I want to make the switch to raw, and will not be having the drug-pad ready for every little problem my dogs may have. I don't take medicine for the sniffles, and neither will my dogs. Does anyone have any advice for me in my search to find *the* perfect vet?

As a side note, I may have found one, but they say nothing about raw and recommend Nature’s Variety’s Prairie and Instinct (Dry, Raw Frozen and Canned lines), Evo, and the Honest Kitchen premium diet for food. Also under Dental Health they recommend " the Porphyromonas Vaccine (“dental vaccine”) by Pfizer was recently introduced in the veterinary field. It is approved for the vaccination of healthy dogs as an aid in preventing periodontitis, as demonstrated by a reduction in bone changes." Which I thought being a supposed 'holistic' vet, that they'd stay away from drugs? If anyone minds I can give the company site for them to look over but not sure if that is allowed to be posted here.

I would just call and ask them to clarify those questions for you. If they don't meet what you want them to be, then do some more research of them in your area. We recently went to one, and although I liked the guy, I don't think we totally matched up on our views. I was excited because he supported raw, but when I got there he didn't support the whole prey diet, and only believed in Barf, which was hard because that's not what I would be doing. I feel like it was good that I went, but when we move I now know more of what I want in a holistic vet because of that experience, so I would save yourself the step and just ask all of the questions up front before you spend the money!

There are varying degrees of holistic vets. Ultimately you need to pick the one that you feel most comfortable with.

I prefer a holistic vet that recommends and encourages raw feeding, titer tests rather than blindly vaccinates, and uses alternative therapies before resorting to traditional medications.

Yes, exactly me. Actually the main reason I'm looking for a holistic vet is to find one who titre tests.

I prefer a veterinarian who follows a minimal vaccine protocol, advocates and feeds raw, studies homeopathy and herbal medicine and is certified in acupuncture.

I found a place that offers virtually every alternative therapy under the sun (including IV Vitamin C & Hydrotherapy) and I am sticking with them.

Actually, you can just get blood drawn and send it to Hemopet if you can't find anything else.
