2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Keeping crate specific toys in the crate Empty
PostSubject: Keeping crate specific toys in the crate   Keeping crate specific toys in the crate EmptyTue Jun 24, 2014 8:59 pm

Unfortunately, my 1 year old husky can no longer be trusted alone. She did great for 2 months in the hallway with all her toys and then she turned 1 and decided to repeatedly rip up the carpet. The first time we thought it was an accident that her bully got stuck in the corner.
Rant aside, we've reverted back to crate training and it's been progressing ever so slowly. I am at a stage where I'm trying to keep crate specific toys, i.e. Kong, smoked shin bone in the crate with the door open. However, my girl just goes in and brings them out to the carpet. I know you can tie the toys to the cage but from a training stand point, can I focus on anything specific? Also, we are attempting to put her in there when she is sleepy, but I think her anxiety starts to overcome it. The second she comes out though, she goes to her spot and falls asleep.  Keeping crate specific toys in the crate 1625187496

Well you should only give them to her when she is shut (locked) in her crate. She shouldn't be able to access the 'special' crate toys unless she's locked in her crate. If she has access to them all the time they aren't special anymore, so there's no way that she will connect access to those things with her crate. Re-training is not going to be easy. It's going to be as loud and frustrating as it was when she was little, only now she's bigger and louder.

We did start off by locking her in there with the special toys but then she didn't pay attention to them. I read somewhere that by doing that then she'll associate them with a trap. She actually took to the crate good when she was younger but always had an issue when we left the apartment. I guess we will change up our strategy. We're back at square one anyway. Is it possible to speed up time alone shut in the crate since she is already house broken?
