So I come to you guys with some bad news. My dog Hatchi who used to be a loving respecting obedient Husky is having quite a lot of issues. First issue is that he is escaping. My house is huge and we have fences all around us but he bites through the fences and goes to the neighbor's house. He always comes back but at the neighbor's house he destroys things and we already have to pay for a thousand dollar couch. Building a wall is not an option because we can't afford that. We've tried fixing the fence but they always seem to find a way to get out. For now we just keep him locked in the laundry room. Second issue is that he is being aggressive towards other dogs. I have two other dogs. One is a male sausage dog and the other is a female husky. The sausage dog is the oldest one. We got the female dog when she was just a puppy so the sausage dog likes the female husky but we got hatchi when he was about two years old so he hates hatchi. Whenever the sausage dog sees hatchi he begins to growl. Hatchi 80 percent of the time won't even care. The problem is that sometimes Hatchi gets jealous or sometimes they are near food and Hatchi bites him and has nearly killed him twice already. For now, they are in different rooms but this has just gotten way too complicated and I am beggining to think that it is best to give Hatchi away. Third problem is that he is being aggressive towards the gardener. The gardener sometimes feeds him, used to groom him and shower him, and used to go near him. Today, the gardener had him on a leash because tats how they poop and pee. The gardener was walking him and out of nowhere Hatchi began to growl and come closer to him. The gardener ran away. I talked to the gardener and he says that he is too scared to even go near him now. This dog is very obedient, very submissive, and a perfect dog when he is around me, but i'm at school most of the day. I really don't want to get rid of this dog because I love him, but if he keeps acting this way, I think I might not have a choice. Can you guys reccomend anything?

EXERCISE. and lots of it. A tired dog is a content dog and a happy owner. I bet giving him more exercise will decrease a lot of the problems your having:)

I have to agree with the above as well. It sounds like he needs more structured exercise and socialization and not just keeping him in the backyard (if that's the case).

As for the feeding, you need to either feed each dog in their crates to avoid food aggression fighting, or feed them in separate rooms. You need to work with him to help with the food aggression, or if you don't have the time, feed in separate rooms.

Also, are any of your dogs spayed or neutered? If both males are in tact, as well as the female, that can cause many problems not only dominance wise, but as well as unplanned litters of puppies and other health concerns that can come with being unaltered.

Discipline and exercise.

I went through something similar with Kenzi after I got her. She was often digging out of the yard and wandering off, though she always came back she was scaring some of the neighbors around while she was out. Luckily she wasn't destructive but now that I exercise her a ton she doesn't bother with the fence anymore. I bike her, walk her, or run her everyday and now she can stay outside in the yard without any issues. Every dog needs different levels of exercise so while your female maybe okay with the amount that she's getting he may not be.

If your gardener is scared of him Hatchi is going to know and push him because he knows he can. If your gardener must work with him I would spend some time with the gardener and dog together so you can see what exactly about the gardener is triggering Hatchi and lay down the law with the dog when it happens and let the gardener know what exactly he did wrong. Getting Hatchi's energy levels under control will probably help some with this but if the gardener cant get a grip and control Hatchi instead of letting Hatchi control him it's going to end up bad for the both of them if Hatchi bites him, or if he just flees and lets Hatchi loose to potentially be hit or stolen. You maybe better off getting a professional dog walker rather than your gardener to deal with him.

He seems to do this because he is bored. Huskies always have to be doing something to entertain themselves. They're like toddlers. That's the reason why the members are offering exercise - to keep him entertained and occupied.

Exercise includes: biking (only if older than 1 year at minimum), jogs (has to be older than 1 yr), and several walks (any age, 5 mins per month of age is the basic rule of thumb). You could also take him to the dog park to get him to run around and chase other dogs.

Huskies are also pack animals. If he's outside by himself all of the time, he is trying to escape so he can be with his family (and he's bored).

As for the food aggression, you can always try to hand feed him to build trust. There are several threads on this topic. Some members can't ever feed their dogs in the same room, so most of them are fed in a crate.

How much exercise does he get? And, echoing Rocio... Is he fixed? How well has he been socialized? Do you know what his past experiences were?
