PostSubject: our puppy is peeing her sleep    our puppy is peeing her sleep EmptyThu Dec 05, 2013 6:09 pm

Hello everyone, I found this site and hoping someone could help us. my husband and i have  5 month year old siberian husky and she has been peeing in her sleep. at first we thought she was just nervous when we got her at her  4 months. We took her to the vet and they told us she had a UTI but everything else was normal. She was on antibodics for two weeks, then we went back and she still had a uti. So they put her back on antibodics but we are both still noticing she is still leaking in her sleep. This happens only when she sleeps, not when she plays or taking her walks. We are now waiting on her results hoping its nothing more serious like incontinence were she would have to put on medication. shes been doing great at house breaking and letting us know she needs to go out. We have tried not letting her drink water 2 hrs before bed but she still would leak that night.  Also we put her on a grain-free diet hoping it would help. I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem and if they know any natural remedies or they just grow out it? this would help put our minds at ease because it also a strange case for the vets with her being so young and with this problem.

Welcome to the forum! I'm not sure what's going on with her, did the Vet explain why she still had a UTI after the first round of meds?

Thank you for the welcome. Unfortunately they don't know why she still has it. The second round of antibodics they gave her was a shot. We try to keep her clean down there as best we can. Not give her a full bath but a partial bath near her area and when she comes in from outside we clean her with baby wipes.

That's strange! Yes I've heard spaying can make it worse but haven't experienced that myself. The only thing I can think of would be it could be a nerve problem, especially since it only happens when she's sleeping. Does she wake up covered in urine, like she emptied her bladder, or just a little, or just drops? It could also be that the uti made it harder to hold her bladder. When she's awake, she can ask to go out, maybe she's just not waking up soon enough, or waking up at all. If I were in your shoes, I would make sure she doesn't have a uti again, and then just set an alarm to wake up and take her out in the middle of the night. It could just be something she'll outgrow. If its still a problem in a month is do more intensive testing.

In terms of cleaning her urethra, I would avoid baby wipes or anything like that, there could be something in them that is irritating to her. If you do rinse her off make sure and dry her off completely, any moisture can make it worse.

You could also seek a second opinion from a different vet. There's nothing wrong with that. Smile
