Sojos freeze-dried raw dog food Empty

I found another brand of freeze-dried raw food, similar to The Honest Kitchen....it's called Sojos.

Has anyone tried feeding this to their pets?

http://www.sojos.com/complete.html

They don't have a fish formula, but they do have an all-veggie formula where you add your own protein, and they have a complete formula with turkey for protein.

It's less than THK....so I was just wondering if anyone has tried Sojos yet?

I've tried Sojos and personally prefer Honest Kitchen overall. Sojos Complete is their only "complete" food which contains meat, all the other formulas require the addition of meat which can limit variety if you don't regularly add meat to the formulas. Honest Kitchen has 6 complete formulas with a variety of protein sources with and without grain; they also have a single grain free incomplete formula requiring inclusion of additional meat.

My second turn off of Sojos Complete is that meat is the second ingredient and not the first. Of THK's 6 complete formulas, 5 of them have meat as the first ingredient which is very important to me.

Another turn off for me with Sojos is that it takes a minimum of 30 minutes to rehydrate (preferably overnight). HK takes 5-8 minutes to rehydrate which is much more convenient for me.

I will say that the one thing that I do prefer about Sojos over HK is the consistency. THK is more like oatmeal after rehydration while Sojos is much more solid and resembles actual 'food'. A bowl of prepared HK looks like tan or green oatmeal depending on the formula you get and prepared Sojos looks more like a Campbell's chunky soup if you drain out all the liquid. Just my opinion anyway.

My short list for Sojos:
Pros:
-Resembles real food in appearance
-taste (my dogs love it)
-freeze dried (freeze drying preserves slightly more nutrients than dehydration but the difference is very minimal)

Cons:
-30 minutes min. time to rehydrate (too long for me)
-only one complete formula (lack of variety for rotation)
-meat is not first ingredient (in the complete formula)
-price (this is relative BUT it is actually more expensive for me to get Sojos)

This is not meant to discourage you in any way! Sojos is a great food and I highly recommend it. I just personally prefer HK but still Sojos is a great freeze dried food. My mother in law has tried both Honest Kitchen and Sojos and her dogs prefer Sojos over HK so that's what she gets.

Thanks for the feedback!

We won't be trying any fowl proteins just yet but was checking out options for the future to test out if Ginger really does have an intolerance to chicken, turkey or duck.

If you are looking the freeze-dried route, try Grandma Lucy's. That was the first alternative raw formula we tried and it was excellent- several different formulas too.
