Hi guys im just curious, is there a trick to getting or keeping the fluffy puffy coat on this guys. When I first got Diego he was extra puffy an cute and after like a month his coat became very slick. I still love him no matter what but would really like him to get his puffy coat back. It makes him look heavier then he actually is haha.

Yup - Winter. Keep him outdoors a lot. You will get an lush, thick puffy coat. Then comes spring and "poof" -away it goes. Everywhere Laughing

All kidding aside - their coat responds to temperature, season and some have thicker coats than others. Also, puppies are poofier with softer fur than adults. Makes 'em nice and cuddly!

Well its winters here in iowa it has been really cold out and I still take him for walks and goes out to play a lot. I mean temperature has been 9° to -22° give an take for all last month. His coat hasn't changed too much. But ive noticed on pictures a lot of the white huskies or creamy colored ones have that slicker coat, unlike black brown red coated huskies.???

It depends on a lot of things. Right now, he's a puppy and will go through various stages of puppy coats before he gets his adult coat. Also, if he really is a hybrid, he may have some german shepherd in him as well, and that will make his coat less fluffy.

My girl has black fur and is a sleek coat. It will change with the seasons, like Amy said. He'll be poofy in winter and sleek in the summer time.

Mine is an outdoor dog - even at the shelter when we got him in Oct, he was in an outdoor kennel. This has been an exceptionally cold winter for us (at least, for the last decade, historically, this would be average, I would think). Ami spends nights in an unheated outbuilding in a crate covered with sleeping bag and mover's blanket with about 10 inches of blankets, dog bed, old wool sweaters and days outdoors with doghouse - his coat is hugely dense, thick undercoat -when I stick my finger in, goes all the way to the base of my hand. Across the road, around the corner, they have a husky female and her coat looks to be the same - she is technically an indoor dog BUT, they have the longest dog trolley I have ever seen and she does not like to come inside - sometimes, they have to drag her in, sometimes they give up (she has shelter under the house if she wants it)

Now, 1.5 miles away, there is another husky on trolley - that one looks as sleek as a greyhound. All of these are reds - the fluffy ones, dilute red, the sleek on a deep, dark luscious almost black cherry red. Go figure. Then, to the north of us, about 2-3 miles, there is an old girl, pure white, indoor dog but gets light outdoor exercise (she has torn meniscus) and she has thick luscious coat, too. She is gorgeous - Ami really wants to play with her but her injury won't permit it. Very sweet girl.

So go figure 4 Siberians, all the same weather -

Also has to do with their bloodlines. Working Siberians generally have a thinner coat ~ less hair for accumulation of water/snow.

Haha, they always look so funky in the summer. Lycus is already a sleeker coat, but he's got some fluff in the winter. In the summer he looks so lanky and weird it's hilarious.
