I feed Fromm and I Like it very much, and more important Maya likes it. Made in my home state so I guess I'm biased. Dog food advisor gave it high marks.

I feed Fromm and I love it, as do my girls. I was feeding Taste of the Wild, and I wasn't too impressed with it. My girls literally DROOL over Fromm. Their stools are much firmer and they always look forward to eating. I highly recommend it Smile.

Fromm is an excellent food and from a good family owned company that manufactures their own food. I highly recommend it.

Someone correct me if im mistaken but i believe fromm is made by american natural premium or possibly vice versa, i spoke to one of american natural's reps a little over a month ago and she mentioned that and they havent had any recalls like many other foods. Fromm is a bit more $ then american natural but i have heard alot of good about it. My sister tried her pitty mix on it but she chewed everything while on it so shes back on a cheapo walmart food.

Awesome! So glad to hear that! I'm so excited I found this store Smile went With my fiancé to get his haircut and he saw the building next door. I went in and the last was so nice and very helpful! She had two golden retriever/ great perinese. (Not sure of the spelling) dogs in the shop which was cute Smile just mixed some of the food in with their old food and Kronos loved it but Atticus seems a little weary. Ill keep trying! Also bought Atticus a big buffalo stick Smile

PostSubject: Re: Fromm dog food?   Fromm dog food? EmptyWed Apr 24, 2013 8:57 pm

I think fromm has many different recipes if your looking to switch to fromm maybe both your pups will enjoy a different recipe. I had mine on the ANP oceanfish and potato but went with the original recipe this time which is chicken and rice and their both liking it so far i'd prefer to stay grain free but its cheaper on me to get the original so if it works im sticking with it. If your a looking for a smaller price tag like i do i would also suggest american natural premium if they have it, or at least its cheaper over here.

Fromm and ANP are both manufactured in the same plant but they are two different private labels. ANP is an alright food, but bear in mind they have a much much smaller selection of formulas to choose from and I would not recommend all their formulas, particularly the ocean fish formula. Fromm has many more formulas, all of which I would highly recommend. Another plus with Fromm is that they specifically keep the majority of the ingredients in their formulas similar to help make the transition easier on dogs' stomachs when switching between formulas in their lines. So you can switch proteins more easily without major stomach upset with sensitive dogs basically.

I personally consider Fromm the better food between the two, I would and have happily fed Fromm to my pack with great results. I would not feed ANP to my dogs, my personal choice and opinion. I am not in any way advising anyone that they should or shouldn't feed either food, just sharing my personal preferences. Not everyone can afford Fromm so there is no harm or shame in opting for the cheaper food if your dogs do well on it.

Mainly because you don't know what fish you are feeding. Wink

ANP is not a horrible food by any stretch of the imagination, it's quite decent I'm sure for the price although I have no idea what the pricing is for the food or how much it differs in price from Fromm. Btw, never said I don't like ANP, just that I wouldn't feed it personally.

Who cares what fish it is? Is there a particular fish you don't like? I can tell you with 99% certainty that it is Menhaden fish meal. Foods like ANP are a bargain.

Fromm is an average food, but very well marketed to women as a "home cooked" meal.

If you look very closely you will see the Pea Protein in the GF foods.

Fromm Gold is solid well priced food. The GF foods are overpriced and low quality in terms of animal protein.

But for most people, feeling good is important so they always gush about Fromm and about the "family" business. It wasn't long ago Fromm made cheap, junky, feed store grade foods.

Perhaps an allergy to a certain fish protein? Salmon, herrring, and Menhaden, for example, are all processed differently. A dog that has a herring allergy can eat salmon perfectly fine. That's why it is important for the owner to know what type of fish is in the food...

I know a little about the nurtition of dog foods but not a whole lot. My trainer recommends anp fromm and california natural? Not sure if i have that last one right. Around me the difference in the two brands is fromm being $10- 20 more per bag for a smaller bag i think the lowest price is 50-55 for a 30lb maybe of fromm and i just picked up a anp for 40.99 at 40 lbs. Its just more cost effective for me and i like that they have no recalls so i feel safer feeding. Both brands are good in my book and we went with the fish because we didnt think bella was handling chicken at first but now she seems fine with it. Just figured i'd throw out another good brand that is lower cost at least in my opinion. Any food you use i would look into a rewards program for though i think fromm runs one not sure though and anp does on all the foods but the original because its already lower priced.
I personally dont care if something says home cooked or not i try to watch the ingredient list for corn and such, if you want home cooked you should be cooking it yourself at home.
i didnt even think about a certain fish allergy but that makes sense.

I just got a couple of samples of Fromm from a local pet store. They really recommended it because Lycus has been getting bored of BB Chicken. I gave him some today and he devoured it so fast! I think I might end up switching over to Fromm.

Snoopy loves Fromm Gold, I haven't tried any of their other formulas though. I like to jump around on different brands and formulas each time I have to buy food, but his digestive system can handle it.

A couple of questions about the Fromm Beef Frittata Veg food. (See ingredients here )

Is this an okay formula and analysis list to feed Nikolai? It all seems really low in meat, but I could be wrong. We are switching from Orijen so my judgement might be a little off. Long story short, Nikolai had two seizures while I was in Vermont (he has never had two in 24 hours) and although the neurologist says there is no link, I find it hard to believe that he has two out of no where right when he goes back to Orijen, so that is the reason for the switch. I chose Fromm because it doesn't have rosemary in it, and beef is the only protein we have found to work on Nikolai so this was our only option from them.

What do you think, and okay formula or no? To much veggies and fruit?

I would suggest putting him on real food mostly meat and fat. Seizures are a brain thing and are in great need of fat. Dogs in the wild aren't veggie and fruit beings they almost eat nothing but meat, with the odd supplement of what they find growing around.

Erica, I personally like Fromm 4 star formulas. Dakota cannot tolerate beef so I don't give him the Beef Frittata Veg but I do give it to Prince as part of his rotation diet. No issues over here, I am a huge Fromm advocate (no connection to the company whatsoever). I don't know how Nikolai does on pork but the Beef Frittata Veg also contains pork I believe.

Yeah, beef is the only thing that we know that works for him for sure so far and thats what we were feeding him with raw, but raw was getting to expensive the way we were doing it and to us it wasn't making the difference we had hoped. Currently chicken and turkey make him itch, fish gives him ear aches, lamb makes him sick to his stomach, plus we don't like rosemary because of the seizures (just in case) so finding food is very difficult! I think the guy at Chewy.com when I was telling him what I needed in a food thought I was crazy, luckily he mentioned Fromm. I had heard of it, but it was one that slipped my mind! Yes, it does have some pork meal? I think it was, and I was planning on trying the full pork after to see if that could be in our rotation since proteins with him are very limited! I am just hoping this one works, it looks like a great food so we will see if his stomach/brain agree! I'm glad you think its a great brand because of how much you know about nutrition! So, thanks Val! (I hope moving is going well for you!)

Hopefully pork agrees with him since alternative proteins like duck, venison and rabbit tend to be a bit more pricey. Good luck, that sounds exhausting trying to find something that works for body and brain. And yes, the move went as well as can be expected.

Just wanted to put it out there for people who are looking up new foods.. Today is day 3 of Fromm 4 star surf and turf (grain free) and Caoimhe loves it. We are switching from TOTW bc she's just not really interested any more, and I'm getting bored of feeding it to her! Poops have been fine and she's actually excited to eat again. She was on Fromm puppy formula for a couple months when I brought her home and did well on it then. The surf n turf is also rated 5 stars on dogfoodadvisor.com

May I ask if any of you have heard of nutri life gold plus 28-18 formula? It also says processed at the fromm factory, 5 pound bag was $10.99, our current totw is $11.99 For a 5 pound bag. Miya is either grain intolerant or food dye or both. I have not found any real information on this. The nice part was that I only have to drive to the town I do my shopping and other stuff, totw I have to drive quite far to get it. Any one heard of it and can give me any info, would be greatly appreciated.

I know it sounds crazy buying 5 pound bags, 3 reasons for this. One Miya gets bored quickly with kibble. Two Miya has an ultra sensitive tummy. And three takes two weeks to go through one 5 pound bag, by then she as stated with number one, she's bored, self fasts and I have to throw the rest away. Funny she never gets bored with her RMB'S., thank goodness. There are days that that's all she'll eat.
Thanks,
Renee
