2014-05-17 We got our husky from a student that realized she was going to be way too busy in the future to take care of her husky puppy since she is also in the army reserves and going to go to japan.

Ino is our huskies name and she is 4 and a half months old and I couldn't have asked for a better dog! Not only does she pick up on things fast but she also comes when called sometimes. The old owner was feeding her pedigree, but i'm trying to take her off that and feed her Pure Balance instead.

I weighed her last week and she was only 20 pounds when she was about 4 months old. Does that mean she is going to be on the small side?

Below is the AKC breed standard. Sibes will keep growing and filling out until they are 2 years old. Sibes are medium-sized working dogs, so they aren't meant to be too big, otherwise it starts to negatively impact their working ability. Sounds like your girl is on target to be right within the breed standard when she's fully grown. And sometimes smaller is better. Smaller dogs can usually do more than bigger dogs, and bigger dogs usually don't live as long as small dogs. Large and X-large dogs have an average lifespan of 8 years, whereas medium to medium-large dogs live 12-14 years. I'll take a smaller, healthier dog over an overly large dog anytime! Hope that helps, and good luck! This forum is a great place to gather info and get your questions answered by fellow lovers of this wild and crazy breed!

Size, Proportion, Substance
Height--Dogs, 21 to 23½ inches at the withers. Bitches, 20 to 22 inches at the withers. Weight--Dogs, 45 to 60 pounds. Bitches, 35 to 50 pounds. Weight is in proportion to height. The measurements mentioned above represent the extreme height and weight limits with no preference given to either extreme. Any appearance of excessive bone or weight should be penalized. In profile, the length of the body from the point of the shoulder to the rear point of the croup is slightly longer than the height of the body from the ground to the top of the withers. Disqualification--Dogs over 23½ inches and bitches over 22 inches.

Which PureBalance formula are you using? I feed the grain-free salmon based and my girls love it. Does wonders for their coat. Shaqua is going to be 12 yrs old on the 14th and he coat has gotten much shinier since I started using that. They have a new grain free Bison formula too. Smile

Cute pup, welcome to the world of huskies. You will never be the same. Smile

yes the salmon one is great especially for huskies! I'm a big supporter of the no grain varieties of dog food since it makes absolutely no sense trying to feed them wheat when in the wild they wouldn't eat that. They don't have any need of most grains. When dog food companies try to convince us to feed our dogs grains they really only are trying to sell us cheap crappy food.
