Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

This is Wonder Woman.  She's only been with us a couple of months and is the 1 of 2 for our first pair of Alaskan Huskies.

Here is miss Wonder Woman (pardon the blurry...it was quite the day), working on her line out (the large sled dog kennel she came from has handlers hold the dogs in a line out, so she never learned)

She looks right at home in that classroom. What a great opportunity to teach kids.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Alaskan Husky is a mixed breed dog bred specifically for sledding. Seeking out characteristics for speed, endurance, cold tolerance etc.

That's pretty close to it. They're the athletes of the racing world. With no breed standard however, there is very little consistency across the board or even in a lot of lines once you move away from the first two litters that have come from a pair. They tend to be less neurotic (not sure if that's the right word) than Siberians in my experience, less finicky about food, but that doesn't mean that there aren't ones that aren't more spazzy than our sibes out there.

For our guys, it means that Wonder Woman and Audie got to transition into a house with Sibes off lead in the house 24/7 when they came to live with us. I wouldn't trust either of them off lead in an unfenced area at this point, but they've also only been with us for a year and I'm a firm believer in dogs not belonging off lead regardless of breed unless you can maintain control over them verbally at all times. Its a matter of safety.
