A good hike with dogs yesterday to Silver Star, behind Washougal, WA.
It was supposed to be clear, so we were surprised when we arrived at the trailhead to find we were in the clouds and it was 48 degrees.
The hike up was pretty uneventful.

I learned that in a pack, Bodhi has got to be first or he's going to kill me.
Lately, I've been having back pain, and my PT said to stop using the waist belt.
So with my hand through the loop, I held Bodhi back as he yanked.
When I got back to the car, my hand was red and swollen.

We were in the clouds the whole way until the last couple hundred feet.
On the way down, we followed the Tarbell Trail as the sun broke through.
We passed some small waterfalls in a green and shaded arc from a different ridge on a long traverse.
The dogs were happy to jump in pools at the bottom of the falls.

OK - from a dummy Rolling Eyes : what is a 13er and what is postholing? Is this a western thing or a climbing thing?

Amy,
a 13er or a 14er is anything above 13,000ft/14,000ft most of the mountains i climb are above that here in CO, sometimes we do a 12er. we generally start at 9,000 or 10,000ft. Denver sits at 5,280ft.
and postholing is when you do winter or spring hiking and you are on trail that is covered in snow, and when it warms up you end up falling through and getting stuck, it sucks ass.

Wow - you must have some set of lungs and a whopping hemoglobin level!

So, postholing - that I've experienced - only less elegantly: tromping out to the compost pile in Feb. PIA!

Thanks, Jenn, for the infor. Tired of exposing my ignorance to the kids all the time!
