I will get right to the point. The Siberian Husky, has always been my dream dog. After living with my girlfriend of 3 years, we decided it was time to get a Husky.

We live in an apartment, in an area with tons of other dogs and our baby just loves it. Her name is Luna (short for Lunatic) and she is always out with me (unemployed) We go for long runs, always at the dog park socializing, and constantly taking her places.

Luna is now about 22 weeks old and around 26lbs. She is very active as I said earlier and I had a few questions. I know the female Husky's don't grow nearly as big as males, but I seem to get a lot of comments saying she is tiny, and my dad even said she is a mini husky ahha!!

My neighbor has a female Husky, and she weighs around 39lbs at 3 years old. I expect Luna to be around this size.

So my question is this. How big was your female Husky (weight wise) around 5 months, and how big is she now. I hope I can get some answers as to what I can expect her to grow up to be. Some of the size charts I have seen, say around 34lbs, which is a very small female Husky.

Luna is beautiful - I love her mask!

To post your picture from serve image - choose the links that say "BB code" in them (the middle one) and then use then copy and paste the "image" link (the 2nd of the two BB code links). That way your image will show up on the page.

Welcome!

One word of warning though, please stop taking her on runs for a while. Doing structured running like that (even if you're on grass) before 1 year can cause severe damage to joints and growth plates.

Good luck with her though, and she is beautiful Smile

Most of her running is at the dog park and we only stay for maybe an hour. Thanks for the advice Smile

Luna is beautiful

My little girl Mishka I think is tiny too, at 6 months she weighed 30 lbs (and she eats like a horse) she is 7 months now...I havnt weighed her but 30 lbs was only a month ago. But yeah, she has a tiny face (like a fox!!) tiny ears, big paws though, haha, and I didnt even realize she had legs til they shaved her for her spay surgury. I think she'll be a petite husky, she's about half the size of my boy husky who is 1 year, 7 months.

Thank you for your wonderful compliment. Weight is just a number and if we measured their weight based off of how much we love our dogs and vice versa, all of our dogs would be obese hahah!

Sorry, I was away from electronics for most of the day Wink

Unstructured running in the dog park is totally fine, and good socialization for her. When she's in the park just running around, she'll stop when she needs to. If you have her leashed going for a run, she'll want to keep going as long as you run and won't stop if she needs. That's where the danger lies. Once she's old enough though, it's great fun to go on runs, I'm a runner and Ghost and I do morning runs and then whenever I find a dog friendly 5K she runs with me Smile

Welcome Rob! Glad to have you here. Luna is stunning! So happy that you and your family are enjoying her so much. I'm no expert, but I have done a lot of research on the breed and whenever I talk to people who have not owned huskies, they always immediately say what a big dog they are. I think they must be thinking of Malamutes. People always seems surprised to learn that the females are usually well under 50 pounds, sometimes closer to 40 or less, and males often aren't much larger than the bigger females. Luna appears to be a perfectly healthy size for her age to my untrained eye. I'm sure you're right that she will just be on the small side. Looks like you've already gotten some good input here and I'm sure you will continue to do so. Enjoy! Smile
