| Being a first time Husky owner and loving my baby girl so much, I always overreact sometimes, and am wondering if I'm doing that here.
Currently Luna is about 22 weeks old and is fed Nature's Recipe Chicken & Sweet Potato Grain Free food for all ages. Luna went through a phase where she had diarrhea when we changed her diet, because she had very soft stools when we brought her home.
So after researching good dry foods for puppies, I found Nature's Recipe. Does anyone feed their dog this food, if not what would you recommend? I think the food is making her fart (although her stools are not soft)
Also is 1 1/4 cup of food 3 times a day enough for her? She eats pretty fast and is always super excited to eat. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thx! |

| She may have an intolerance to chicken, it's super common in dogs. Nature's Recipe is a good food too, we were feeding it to our Cocker Spaniel for a while (both our Huskies have had to be grain free). Maybe look at one of their lamb formulas or another protein source, Lulu gets horrible, paint peeling farts whenever she eats food with chicken in it. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. Thx again for the advice. I guess my next question would be. Would you recommend, I ween her into the change (if I do change) or being that it would be the same brand, just do the change as if it was her regular feed? |

| The prevailing wisdom is that you gradually change the food by mixing the new food with the old...generally 25% new to 75% old 3-4 days, than 50-50 for a few days than75-25 for a few days, taking about 2 weeks for total change.
That being said, Ami seems to have a cast iron stomach and I have abruptly switched on occasion without undue mishap. Not sure I would recommend that for a puppy...unless you like rampant diarrhea...
Meredith - you do have some lovely, descriptive language:lol: |

Meredith - you do have some lovely, descriptive language:lol: I do try, Amy Amy is spot on with the gradual change over. That's worked pretty well for us too. Also, you can give her a little bit of canned pumpkin and that helps with digestive upsets. Make sure it's pure pumpkin though and not pie filling. The added stuff in the filling can result in some pretty epic diarrhea. A couple tablespoons is all you should give at any one time as well. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword.
