Bandit likes to bite her legs. Sometimes it looks playful other times it looks like she has fleas but I know she doesn't. She likes to bite her nails sometimes too. She also has been licking her wound. Idk how she got it but she licks it a lot. Maybe she got the wound from chewing herself??? Any special care I should do for any of these things???

Huskies clean themselves similar to cat's, they preen, they bite on the nails, etc. If her sore looks red or irritated I would take her to the vet to see if she has any problems, and to make sure it's healing. If it's a scratch and doesn't look like a big deal, I would clean it up a bit with a baby wipe, or some type of wipe that is safe for puppies/dogs/babies, just to help it along. She may have an allergy to something as well, so if she continues to clean in a specific spot then it's time for the vet.

It sounds like some type of allergy to me, and that looks like a hot spot. Hot spots start either with just itchy skin, or a tiny wound and then they lick and lick it, and it gets more irritated, bigger and itchier until they cause a sore to develop. It looks like it's healing nicely. Biting their feet can be normal self-grooming for huskies, but if it seems more than what would be normal, I would see a vet. It could definitely be a food or environmental allergy. Diz has some food allergies (main culprit is chicken) and I can tell within a few hours if he's reacting to something. He starts biting his feet and legs, and scratching his ears. The itchiness will usually last 24-48 hours and then it stops and he's fine. If she's causing hot spots or if her feet look inflamed, or her skin is red, I would definitely investigate the possibility she might have an allergy of some kind.

Tony, You mentioned a vet appointment for today, what did your vet think? Did they check her spots? How about a stool sample for worms. With tape worm she may lick her behind a lot and you can look for a worm on her tail or butt, the spots though would not be a reaction to worms, so this is something else. I'm guessing allergy to something, but only your vet can honestly help you with the sores. If you didn't go to the vet on Tuesday, get her in as soon as you can to get her checked out. The only way the worms "could" affect her with the sore issue is if she has fleas, therefore a flea allergy causes the hot spots and also causes tapeworm when she eats a contaminated flea. Vet can do a skin scrapping to determine some causes to the hot spots, and give you recommendations as to how to treat and prevent. Good luck.

Btw, if you rule out tape worms and flea allergy, you may, as Jen mentioned, need to start looking into a food allergy. Obviously there is something in her surroundings, be it food, fleas, environment, that is causing these hot spots, so eliminating things may be the next direction in solving her issues.

Anal glands needed to be expressed. She did not like it at all! I did not see this one when I went... go figure... =/ I'll have to give a call tomorrow and see if I can stop in. Her fur is changing colors too. Is that normal for a pup?

I added something to my post that may be helpful. Yes their coat color may change, and may change a few times as she matures. Dreaded anal glands, that's always another culprit to the butt licking, ugh. Did your vet suggest anything to prevent that in the future?

It could be a food allergy, I thought Jen had a thread on her boy's allergy, but couldn't find it for you. Another member discovered it was a rug in the house that was causing hot spots. So it could be just about anything. I'm not an expert on it, since I don't have the problem. From what I've read it is normally a protein issue, as in an allergy to a certain fish, or turkey, or chicken. You get the idea. What is the old food and what is the new food. I'm sure someone will read and help you better with this, and perhaps your vet can help as well.

Are they the same type of protein? As in both are chicken? and if you have just started transitioning, it may take awhile for symptoms to clear, since the spots started before new food, correct? I would wait and see if once you have made the complete switch to see if she stops biting herself, otherwise, back to the drawing board. Someone else may have a better solution, but you have something to work with. Chances are the same protein is not found in both the old and new food, but you never know. It's worth taking a look, or like I said wait until you're done transitioning.

Tony, I did find this post, as to a similar issue and Jen gave some great advice, see if it helps.....the thread is "Puppy nipping/biting/scratching himself ALOT" under medical issues, perhaps that will help. Although you are feeding a different protein, it may clear up, once you are done with her old food.
