Hey guys! My name is Franci, me and my fiancé are first time dog owners and we decided ( well he did) to get a husky!

Heres the back story, we bought him in Albania, which also means no actual laws on animals! it was a backyard breeder and probably the worst I've seen as of yet! All pet shops also get their supply of pups from back yard breeders! ( 4-5 we visited told us this guy supplied them) Sad

We bought simba home at 4-5 weeks old! (however we still don't know his real age) Which the breeder passed off as a month and a half Sad.

When we bought him home he was infested in fleas, ticks and worms and what not! and wouldn't move at all, no energy, no appetite, the poor guy was probably anaemic due to the amount of blood loss at such a young age =[

we took him to the vet and was advised to use a chemical flea repellent on him, We washed him that first day, with the chemical flea repellent big nono but i couldn't sit there and watch about 20 fleas crawl around his eye as soon as he closed them. and into his ears!

this didn't make much of a difference. He was too young to have his shots there for we dewormed him and came back to the vet to schedule his shots when he was of age. in the mean time we used very light flea reptiliant spray, which was designed for smaller delicate animals such as budgies bunnies etc, which worked WONDERS! and got him flea free in a week!

For the first 2 weeks we got him we had to feed him dog milk from a dummy as he couldn't digest solids or soft foods yet, and slowly changed him over to softer foods, now he's on 100% hard food.

Today samba is healthy, growing every day! has a bit of a mouthing problem but were working on this slowly its just that he never learnt to play fight and not to bite from the other pups! he has one striking blue eye and one split eye, ( this became clear later on as they were both blue when we first got him)

Due to the breeder being dodgy as hell I'm now worried if samba may be a cross breed? he said he was a husky ' that won't get too big' but so far all the vets say he's the purest they've seen as of yet here in albania.

Do you think he's pure?

He also barks ALLOT everytime i tell fellow just friends this they're baffeled, samba will have a full blown argument with you and strut off like a little princess lol but we love him all the same !

Here are some photos of our little prince from when we first got him to this afternoon!

Welcome to the board! Samba is just beautiful! So glad you were able to help him as much as you did. I'm not sure on the age, but he looks pretty young to me. Hard to say, since he's had such a hard start. Hopefully someone with experience will jump in soon. Smile

I love his mask - a masked black and white is one of my favorites!

He sure looks full husky to me and in my inexperienced eye, 3-4 months is a good ball park.

Maybe HuskyMom will chime in - she has loads of experience/expertise with pups and dogs.

Thankyou so much! i lurk here all the time trying to pick up tips and thought it was finally time to join! i wish i could've saved the rest of the litter! I literally cried at the condition the dogs were kept, outside the cold, he wasn't even with his actual mother! they had a terrier in the cage ! and the litter was separated with other adult dogs, pugs, akita, etc ! so happy i saved one of them!

Hi again, Franci! I'm sorry I misspelled your little guy's name. I had Simba in my mind, but it came out Samba, LOL. Wow, what deplorable conditions. It is just infuriating that people can get away with such horrible treatment of animals. At least you were able to make a difference for one puppy. I just wish there was some way to shut that guy down. No

Hi its okay! i did it myself in my OP haha, it is, i can't even explain how bad they were kept, i saw pugs, husky, akita, german shep, rotwiler, and pitbulls all in his back garden! half of them had been sprayed green apparently where they've been in a dog fight and bitten? The husky litter i got my simba from were all in a cage with a tall terrier like dog, a female husky at the other end of the garden with new borns probably 1 week old! they were the size of my palms! so i don't even think she gave birth to simbas litter :S the akitas were gorgeous though, so wanted one! but the owner reassured us that this husky breed didn't get too tall ( we initially went in to get a pug, or a smalls dog and walked out with this gorgeous thing!

What also baffled me! he was like make sure you give him bread soaked in cows milk!!! soups, meat, and everything you eat, from pies to hella greasy food !!!! at the age i got him!! i only ever give samba human food as a treat, or use my left overs as training snacks so its all n moderate and I'm well sure to check if it does him bad or not! other than that, its just dry dog food!

Theres no way to shut down back yard breeders, thats the only pet shops supply of pets :/ the number of strays floating around the streets is sad.

Yeah, it really is. I wish I could help them all. One dog at a time, I guess.
