After I found a patch of alopecia on Archer's belly and frequent scratching, I started adding 1 tsp of olive oil to every feeding. I had examined his skin, found no redness or weeping, but did find white flakes similar to dandruff. On the assumption that it was winter dry skin causing the itchiness, I started the olive oil about 10 days ago. Since then, his coat has become much glossier, softer and, best of all - his stinkiness is gone.

Could this possibly be from the olive oil after such a short time? Any explanation for this. He is fed TOTW sierra formula.

I have a friend with a pit bull that had the same results after just over a week with the olive oil so it's a good chance it might be the olive oil. Check out Missing Link or salmon oil too which both work as well.

I've thought about fish oil but the thought of the smell is more than I want to deal with ( some members her have said the toys salmon formula leaves their dogs very stinky Razz )

We eat a ton of olive oil - how come my skin is still dry and wrinkly lol!

Definitely the olive oil! When I first started Mishka on coconut oil and then fish oil there was a noticeable difference not long after.

Ashleigh, do you notice any odor with the fish oil?  I would really like to rotate fish oil, olive oil and coconut oil but I do not want a fishy smelling dog!

I give the fish oil pills for people so there's no smell. At least not one I notice.

Missing link is another one to consider if you are worried about smell. It's a powder vs. oil but it works just as well for most dogs.

How much do you use? The ones I take are 1400mg with 900 EPA/DHA.

Missing Link? Where do you buy it?

I give 1000mg of fish/salmon oil daily and 400mg of Vitamin E every other day. If you supplement with fish oils you need to give Vitamin E as well since fish oils deplete the vitamin e.

You can buy missing link either on Amazon or at most pet food stores.
