Hi, all. I am rescuing a 2 year old Husky next Saturday and i haven't heard much at all about what i should do with this new rescue. I currently have a 3mo. German Shepherd and really want them to get along.
What stuff should i get for the husky(Juneau) for when he shows up?

Hey, I am not sure how your GSD is but even if it gets along with all dogs, I think it is best to introduce your new dog and your current dog on a neutral ground first. Not inside your home, maybe a nearby street both are not familiar with so both are equal in meeting each other. It will be helpful to have a friend take one dog and you the other, then greet them and do a little walk with them so they adjust to each other. The rescue should have some information on the husky's behavior for you so it should be easier to tell how it should get along with your dog. Not sure if you are crate training the german shepherd but I think they are useful training tools and give the dogs a place of their own they feel safe going to. If it were me I would remove all toys and objects of interest like bones at first since these will most likely be the start of any problems. Then gradually reintroduce these items when they get adjusted in the home and you are there to observe both of them. Also I would feed them at the same time but in separate rooms at first to ensure no problems arise there as well. These are just my suggestions but I only have 1 dog lol. The more experienced two dog owners here will chime in soon enough with better advice but this hopefully is on the right track.

The trick with two dogs is balance. Once you have the meet and greet down and all is well, balancing attention between the two is where you keep them happy. They each need their own time and space. Individual training for each dog is just as important as training them together. Especially to your GSD who might feel a little left out with a new dog around to take his attention. Reserving some time for each dog one on one keeps the emotional peace.

Not sure how long he has been fixed, but I would have enzyme spray on hand just in case. When I got my second rescue he was a young newly fixed male that had a marking problem and the first time we brought him home he tried to mark in the house. Your young GSD might not be inclined to remark any spots this dog could attempt to mark, but if the new dog does try or succeed in marking in the house you will want to be ready with enzyme spray so it doesn't turn into a cycle.
