Hi everyone!
My name is Huy, and I recently picked up my first husky. Her name is Miya and is only 4 weeks old. Hope to learn more about husky. Currently trying to crate train her. I'm also trying to look into enrolling her into puppy classes in a few weeks when she gets her shots, but have not found a good place yet.  She's cute and Im hoping I can train her well.

Miya is definitely adorable Smile good luck to you with her and welcome to the forum! Smile

4 weeks is super early to be leaving her mother/litter mates. How did that happen?

Huy then you have one vet to make sure you don't go to ... let's simply say that you're going to have a lot of challenges as your puppy grows up because of the things that he didn't learn from his litter mates. During the last couple of weeks ( weeks 7 - 8 ) is when a puppy learns most about how to be a dog and most importantly learns bite inhibition. You're going to have to teach her about stuff like that.

Sorry about being a curmudgeon, but that's the way it is ...

And ... she's a charmer, real cute little pup you have there. Welcome to the forum and feel free to ask anything you want. We've got at least one other active member from Houston (though I don't remember which part) and I lived over there for close to 30 years before I left the civilized world for the Big Bend.

yeah. i feel at fault for not doing my homework. So I feel worried now. I hope she doesn't become aggressive or antisocial. I'm glad you guys are telling me this, and again this is my fault for not doing the research. shes really calm and playful as of now. Is there anyone on here that has taken a puppy before 8 weeks not like how i did, but maybe perhaps the pup lost their mother or something else? If so, how did they turn out?

Since most of the rest of the world has gone to bed (they're smarter than I am, obviously) I'll toss out a few things to watch out for.

Socialization can be a problem since she doesn't have her kin to help her and you can't get her out till she's had her shots,  Without putting her into scary situations, I think you'll want to expose her to as many people / situations as you can. This tends to be a hard call, you don't want to coddle her too much, but you want her to know she's safe.

In a couple of weeks she'll start using her teeth more (*much* more!) and you're going to have to teach her that *this* is okay (in play) and *that* hurts.  Some pups respond to a simple yelp and backing off - like their siblings would do - and other become more excited in which case you just have to put her in time out (and time out for a young pup is measured in small minutes, 2 - 5 at most)

I had a mixed bitch (looked like a cross between a ridgeback and a greyhound) who was too young to have a litter and she was pregnant when I picked her up at the pound (who knew?) She waited til the pup were about 6 weeks old and she left - went to stay with a lady about 5 miles away.  I had the pleasure of being momma to 7 pups who were just reaching the "I'm going to go exploring!" stage (and pups explore with the nose and teeth!) needless to say my hands were getting pretty chewed up but they (and I) survived,

Just take a chill pill when she gets too hyper and once she accepts that the crate is her space you can tell her to take a time out there.
Good luck!!

Al - not ALL of us have gone to bed.  I planted until dark, did the lunch dishes, took Ami for a walk and now...it is time to make dinner lol!

Huy - welcome to the forum.  Al gave you some great advice.  It's not the end of the world that you adopted her too early but will be tougher socializing - maybe find some friends that have dogs with all their shots and known healthy?  (Unless that new dog flu is in your area, then I would keep her secluded.)  I agree with Al that your vet should have advised you to wait.

I don't think you have to worry about her becoming aggressive as much is clueless about what is enough and what is too much in play - I've found that as long as you are consistent, dogs will adapt to you.  They seem to like routine and knowing what is expected.

I'm very pleased to know there are such great people in this forum. Thanks everyone. Yeah i'll try to let her socialize with more people and after she gets her shots, maybe a week or two after that I will enroll her into puppy class for obedience training.

David, did you take Mylo to any obedience school here in Houston?

Mylo and I went to a place called Peace Love and Dogs. We got in the first class for puppies "Puppy 1 class". It's six Saturdays for an hour and it's a group class of about 10 pups max. What I enjoyed the most of the whole thing was the play/socialization part. There's a huge gated play area in the campus so we would get there like 40 minutes early and some other owners were already there too and we'd let our pups loose until before class started in the building. To me this was great because your pup will be running around with pups that are safe and have all their shots. In Puppy 1 class you are "guided" through how to train your pup to sit, down, leave it/take it, and come. They have more programs including obedience classes but we only did Puppy 1. The staff there is nice and the place is clean.

My old black dog was taken from its litter at 5 weeks due to not having enough milk for the mother's whole litter. He was the biggest so we weened him early. He was the best dog I ever had, though not a husky. He turned out fine and we did many of the things mentioned above. With much effort you can be successful and create a balanced dog even when taken that young from its litter.
