So, I went and picked up my puppy today! He's mischievous and energetic.
Menchi's first day home ... eeek! Worms! Unname10

BUT... After his last bowl movement i have found some worm looking things in his poop.  They look like maggots/rice.

He was growing up on a farm run by Mennonites, freely roaming around. When I got him he smelled horrid. He yaked on the way home but nothing out of ordinary there. Just lots of diamond food and hay and grass.

I gave him a bath, cleaned him up and he is very energetic.
His stool went from meh-gross-slimy-bog-mud to what looks to me as normal dog poop. The change happened after a diet change from diamond to Nutro Puppy Chiot.

A vet visit is on sched but its 3 weeks away.

Is there something I can give him OTC while waiting to get in to see the vet for his over all check up? Pet stores are closed at the hour.

I am currently searching the forum before i head off to the dept.

What I used to use (pure tobacco) has become VERY problematic of late - even more than it used to be.  So I went looking....

Most of the homeopathic "cures" for worms use herbs, etc that are as dangerous as tobacco.  About the only thing that I've seen suggested on several sites that I might try are raw carrots ... I'm really not sure if they would do any good but at least they are not harmful.

As an explanation - in the day when there was nothing in a cigarette but tobacco, about a half inch of a cigarettes tobacco would kill worms (actually it's the nicotine that kills them) but with all the chemicals that are mixed into tobacco now I wouldn't even think about it.  Tobacco for human consumption has been so adulterated that it's not safe for consumption (not that it ever was safe, but it's worse now!) [and yes, I still smoke]

Your best bet would be a phone call to your vet in the morning, explain the situation and he'll probably suggest you visit him (or possibly a feed store depending on where you live) for worm medicine ... let's be safe here, eh??

Wow never would have guessed that use for unaltered tobacco.
I'll call in the morning to see if there is something that can be given sooner than the appointment. Hopefully there is something I can swing by and pick it up on lunch break.

If you have a tractor supply they should have some there. Howeve,r you need to go to the vet long before then, if there is something wrong with you pet you need to know. When buying from less than reputable breeders you need to make sure you go directly to the vet within 24-48 hours

Agreed with Megan. You should have a vet appointment lined up within the first few days of bringing your puppy home. 3 weeks is way too long to wait to bring him to his first vet appointment, especially if he was living in less than ideal conditions.
