PostSubject: Freaking out in crate at bedtime!!!   Sun Sep 06, 2015 7:42 pm

I am a new husky owner but i have always kept dog of all breeds. My lovely 10 week old pup, Nymeria, is doing great.

Her general training is coming on great!! But the problem is when she goes in her crate at bedtime she freaks out as soon as we leave the room.
This is something that is not an issue during the day. Nymeria will put herself in the crate when she need some alone time, and we can come in and out of the room. The second it is bedtime, even if she is sleepy, she crys and howls for hours tonight she has been going at it for 2 hours straight!!!

I feel so guilty about it. Am i right to let her cry as she is new to the crate but it is needed as she will eat everything when she is left at night.

I have tried having the crate in the room with us and it only make her wrose as she tries to bit and kick the door open

Any advice would be much appreciated!!!

Thank you!!!

You shouldn't feel guity, you aren't doing anything wrong to her. You are doing something for her...eventually.

You just have to wait it out and continue to not give in. It will change, it always does, it just takes time and lots of patience.

It's all about conditioning and patterning and once this kicks in as a newly conditioned pattern, it will be quiet as can be.

There is no magic trick or shortcut that will make her quiet and content prior to the conditioned pattern being normal for her. It just takes time.

You can follow Jeff's excellent advice or resort to how I threaten to deal with husband when he is sleeping fitfully or not at all.  I call it the "rubber mallet treatment" lol!

Seriously, the important thing is to not give him...my mantra? "This, too, in time will pass"
