Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

New Husky Puppy - Acclimating with Older Dogs Empty
PostSubject: New Husky Puppy - Acclimating with Older Dogs   New Husky Puppy - Acclimating with Older Dogs EmptyWed Dec 30, 2015 2:53 pm

Hi
I have 2 five year old Huskies, a boy Storm and a girl Blizzard, and recently adopted a new boy puppy, Ice, he's almost 10 weeks old. We have had him now for about 3 weeks. I'm looking for tips on acclimating him with my other dogs. Blizzard and Storm did not seem as happy as me and my husband when we brought Ice home. Any tips or stories would be helpful.
Thanks!

It's going to take time and some rule setting from you over all dogs involved. If you know your older dogs don't like anyone coming around them during meal time, make sure you feed Ice away from them in his crate or another room so that they don't bother him or vice versa. If they go to take his toys from him with no intentions of letting him have them back or of guarding them make sure you step in and don't let them get away with it. Teach everyone boundaries. To an extent they are going to have to set their own pecking order, and they will do it. It is up to you to make sure they set their pecking order in an acceptable manor and don't get out of hand. Make sure all the dogs still have their own time with you and alone, and that they have their own space to relax. If the puppy wants to play play play all the time and your older dogs just aren't in the mood do some training with the pup to get him out of their hair. don't be surprised if the other dogs put him in his place a couple times. In time they will come around.

I love your avatar. He's very cute.
