Hi, just a question here...do any of you continue your relationships with the breeders past getting the puppy? Or, have any of you stayed in contact with the rescue organizations you've gotten your pups from? I.e. Updates on how they're doing, progress they've made etc!

If it were me on the other end I might like to see pictures of the dogs in their new homes with their loved ones. Just a thought!

Personally I feel like I got scammed a little, I got my Cora from a farm breeder and she had said she would email me for update pictures but she never did. I love the idea of keeping in touch! plus for reputable breeders its good to have growth update pictures for their own personal knowledge.

Greta, Sofie's breeder is on FB so yes I post up updates and pics of her and with her and Miya. Also when Sofie was sick a few weeks ago, my husband asked him to call me at home, I was a bit frazzled. He called and spoke with me and helped me with what my vet didn't answer. When we were finishing up our conversation I apologized for taking up his time, he is a trainer and does work his dogs, he actually said he wants me to feel confident in calling him and updating him. He wants to know how his pups are doing, and any questions I have to feel free contacting him. I really love my breeder, and I think for the most part a good breeder does appreciate hearing and seeing how their pups are doing.

I have kept in contact, I just sent her pics at Christmastime even, and she has contacted me as well. She's very responsive to any questions I have had, for instance when I was wanting my second (Mishka of course) she would always keep me updated.

Thank you for the feedback all Renee, Jimmy and Zoe!

It was a great experience getting Lutsen and they answered a ton of questions I had as I had never gotten a puppy from a breeder before. I know that my parent's rescue they had updates with the foster organization...mainly because my parents got Sadie as a foster and fell in love with her so they decided to keep her!

I have the kennels contact information so I was thinking of sending a thank you email and an update on how he's doing Smile.

Do you still have their contact info? You could always reach out to update them on Cora if so I'm sure!

I really liked Lutsen's breeders because they were such a small kennel of sibs with great temperaments. They were all sled dogs too so it was nice to know that we were getting a puppy from a liter who was bred to conform to the standards of the breed. I never thought i'd do so much research on having a companion animal in my life but that's what you have to do when you're committed I guess! I definitely didn't know a whole lot going into it but this forum has helped kick my ass into gear for sure!

Greta yes she is, kinda weird tho Miya got sick exactly 2 days later, same symptoms. I also discovered that Sofie just doesn't do well on a high protein diet, Miya does, but I imagine it's because of the different breeds that they are. Figured it was standing kiddie pool water that made them sick, so no drinking water outside unless I give it to them. Thanks for asking. Smile

Do they try to eat each other's food? I brought Lu over to my mom and dad's house one time and I caught him sneaking a couple bites of Sadies food...she's 14! Later than night he threw up once but then was fine and I figured it was that.

Kiddie pool water was probably the culprit! Oh pups and their sensitive tummys!

Miya is not big on food in general, but Sofie is an eating machine, lol, oddly enough, by me switching the protein % and increasing her food by a 1/4 cup she no longer tries and steal food from Miya. She used to pretend to drink from the water bowl and slide over and steal a mouthful of Miya's food, and then sneak off where no one was looking t eat it, repeat several times, haha. She hasn't done that since switching and giving a tad bit more. They eat the same brand, so in reality I wasn't worried about her stealing the food, it was the richness of it that gave her pudding poop.

I keep in touch my Anya's breeder--it's actually required that I check in twice a year and send updated photos so she knows she's well taken care of Smile

I would do it anyway; Anya's breeder is awesome and has always been so helpful. And Anya is such a lovebug I have to let her know her latest adventures and achievements (I think we both burst with pride when she got her therapy certification!)

I like your idea of adding more protein! That probably really helps with feeling fuller longer for sofie!

Happy Monday Renee!

Thank you Kat and Ronin!

I reached out to Lutsen's breeder and she said she loves getting feedback and seeing pictures of previous litters and to continue to send pics of how Lutsen is doing. She loves his name too Wink! So far we have only been going weekly to the ski hill by our house located by the st. croix river, so it'd be fun to bring Lutsen to Lutsen ski resort someday!

The dogs I have gotten from reputable breeders I'm in contact with almost daily. They have become great friends and are so supportive in all the accomplishments we get to enjoy together over the dogs they produced and I have the pleasure of sharing life with.

The dogs I was not lucky enough to bring in from reputable breeders, well there has been no contact since the dogs came home. Thankfully I got the paperwork from them before contact ended.

I definitely agree with you, Huskymom that it shows in the breeders reputation if they simply do not care what happens to their litters after they are placed in homes.

Our boy came from breeders that have a sled dog team and the last litter they produced was almost 2 years before Lutsen's litter was born. It is definitely appreciated by them to see pictures of past litters and get updates on how they're doing.

I did not want a husky for show but heard how independent they are and that they are great workout partners and with our lifestyle it seemed like a good fit. We are big into winter activities so I'm definitely going to get into skijoring for next winter when he's older! His temperament is incredible but that definitely showed through in the sire and dam that produced his litter. They were so gentle!

I have Finley's breeder on Facebook so she sees all the pictures and comments often, I've also 'met' people who own other pups from her and its fun seeing the other dogs grow and what Fin might look like when she is older Smile

I'm friends with several local Husky breeders/mushers on Facebook, Layla's breeder included. I have a good relationship with all of them and often say hi in person at breed-related events. One breeder/musher I'm in almost daily contact with and consider a friend and mentor. I don't have a pup from her, but I'd really like one someday. She has a busy and interesting life with her husband, two young sons, kennel of dogs and small farm of rescue animals that I love to keep up with.

Yes, my breeders run working line kennels, I stay in contact with all of them. One owns the mom where I got my pup, the other two are who I actually got my pup from and own the dad. I keep them updated on Ame's progress, and ask for help/advice when I'm looking for feedback on something usually working related, or to see how Ame is growing in comparison to her siblings that they kept.

Liz-that's awesome! Love your pic of you bikejoring by the way! I've already gotten some feedback from others on skijoring clubs in my area that I want to look into for when Lutsen is older! The breeder/musher you're in contact with sounds an awful lot like the people we got Lutsen from! A small skijoring/sledding kennel in northern, MN. They two have two small kids which I thought was awesome because Lutsen has been very gentle and patient with every kid he meets.

Megan-What kindof working activities do you do with your dogs? Are those all yours in your pic? They are beautiful! I think the one thing I've learned most in this discussion is that everyone seems to agree that a good breeder will want to know the progress of their pups from past litters as they grow. Especially if their goal is to better the breed Smile (as it should be!)

I train and compete in mushing. Mainly dryland with my rig but also sled when we occasionally have snow.

Editing since I quickly replied at work earlier. Yes thank you they're all mine Smile the puppy is now bigger though at nearly 8 months old.

Thank you! Fin was only one of three, the others were both boys and so cute, definitely starting to outgrow her now though, from the pictures I've seen. JoAnna has been breeding for years so it's really cool seeing so many generations of the line she is from, lots of people post updates.
