I'm friends with several local Husky breeders/mushers on Facebook, Layla's breeder included. I have a good relationship with all of them and often say hi in person at breed-related events. One breeder/musher I'm in almost daily contact with and consider a friend and mentor. I don't have a pup from her, but I'd really like one someday. She has a busy and interesting life with her husband, two young sons, kennel of dogs and small farm of rescue animals that I love to keep up with.

Yes, my breeders run working line kennels, I stay in contact with all of them. One owns the mom where I got my pup, the other two are who I actually got my pup from and own the dad. I keep them updated on Ame's progress, and ask for help/advice when I'm looking for feedback on something usually working related, or to see how Ame is growing in comparison to her siblings that they kept.

Liz-that's awesome! Love your pic of you bikejoring by the way! I've already gotten some feedback from others on skijoring clubs in my area that I want to look into for when Lutsen is older! The breeder/musher you're in contact with sounds an awful lot like the people we got Lutsen from! A small skijoring/sledding kennel in northern, MN. They two have two small kids which I thought was awesome because Lutsen has been very gentle and patient with every kid he meets.

Megan-What kindof working activities do you do with your dogs? Are those all yours in your pic? They are beautiful! I think the one thing I've learned most in this discussion is that everyone seems to agree that a good breeder will want to know the progress of their pups from past litters as they grow. Especially if their goal is to better the breed Smile (as it should be!)

I train and compete in mushing. Mainly dryland with my rig but also sled when we occasionally have snow.

Editing since I quickly replied at work earlier. Yes thank you they're all mine Smile the puppy is now bigger though at nearly 8 months old.

That is super fun! I would love to see  Lutsen's liter mates all grown up! There were 7 total mostly girls Smile. Finley is so pretty love the name!

Thank you! Fin was only one of three, the others were both boys and so cute, definitely starting to outgrow her now though, from the pictures I've seen. JoAnna has been breeding for years so it's really cool seeing so many generations of the line she is from, lots of people post updates.

I had some issues with my breeder and I don't really stay in contact.

I would never get another dog from her even though I really enjoy the one I have.

In the future I hope to find a breeder who is responsible and is what I'm looking for to get my next dog from and form a relationship with like many of the people on here have. Unfortunately I haven't found one yet but I am a few years from looking at another dog so I haven't really been looking hard.

I keep in very close contact with Orion's breeder.
Initially when I got Orion I would catch up with her every few months and we got on very well then about 18 months ago she was short a handler for an upcoming show so I volunteered to help out - I had never show handled before lol but thankfully I knew the bitch she had entered was a little pro and we did very well! Long story short I had an absolute blast and I've been handling her dogs ever since. She has been breeding dogs for close to 50 years and is a very well renowned judge so I am incredibly lucky that she has taken me under her wing Smile I am now round there at least once a week for a cup of coffee and a chat Smile at the moment it is considerably more often than that because she has lovely litter of 4 adorable little munchins just on 3 weeks old

An update on Lutsen's Breeder: She sent another email after our correspondence on how Lutsen is doing and asked if she could feature him in a past litter update...I got to see some pictures of Lutsen's littermates...they all look so much alike!

Isn't it awesome Greta! I actually saved pics to my computer of all Kohdi's littermates (Mishka's too!) not sure why but, I did! lol.

With my last two huskies I would have LOVED to know of their siblings. Mostly because I desperately need to know if any of them turned out with the same seizure disorders as mine. It's like, I can never be 100% certain it was not something caused by me, or their surroundings here, etc. I can never have closure. I did have a relationship with the breeder, she was so informative, especially on things like diet, a pic I had sent her of Malukhai she asked permission to use on her site and it was the only one of its kind on her site, so I was pretty honored. But with the seizures, she claimed mine were the only ones Sad

I am so sorry Jimmy! I can't imagine seeing a dog go through that! I've heard of huskies having seizures before...especially on this forum. Is it specific to this breed or do other breeds experience this?

P.s. I also have Lutsen's sire and dam and litermates saved on my phone Smile!

Thank you Greta. It was tough. Sad

No, seizures are not specific to huskies at all. It can happen in any breed really. Huskies are pretty high up on the list though from what I've read. One of the reasons I chose the breeder I got Kohdi and Mishka from is because she specifically mentions epilepsy in her health guarantee. Anyways, I didn't mean for my post to take your topic in another direction, I'm sorry about that. I had only meant that I wish I had known some of Malukhai and Anuschka's siblings to know how they are doing right now or if they suffered the same fate as mine. Just one of those things that haunts me.

So no more seizure talk. I'm glad you reached out to your breeder and good things have come from it! That's awesome!

On the contrary Jimmy...i think knowing about the health of the blood line associated with the puppy you're getting goes hand in hand with breeder relationships! We are blessed to have healthy happy animals Smile
