Help! Excessive pottying Empty
PostSubject: Help! Excessive pottying    Help! Excessive pottying EmptySat Feb 20, 2016 11:41 am

Alpha has pooped 8 times this morning and it's currently 9:30 AM. His poop is really watery, and I found a bit of stuffing (from a toy most likely) along with red blood in one. He's acting fine, playing, ate his breakfast. He also finished his coccidia treatment so that should not be an issue however we were going to follow up with the vet. Does this many bowel movements sound like something that requires urgent medical attention or would you all just watch him? His vet isn't open today, he provides after hours services but the fee is really high. I'm gonna run to the store and grab some pumpkin to try and settle his tummy. It's just been so long since I've had a dog this young I'm second guessing whether or not this is urgent.

As a refresher he is about 9 weeks old.

Thanks in advance!

(He has only had one set of shots that we know for certain because we had those done ourselves, but it doesn't smell like parvovirus, I know that's gross but I think parvovirus is very distinct.)

Coccidia and giardia have a smell all their own too. If it still smells rank he may have reinfected himself. I would try the pumpkin first and just monitor him. If he's got some toy working through his system that will upset his belly and diarrhea will happen. I wouldn't make a trip to vet yet. The blood will be a result of being raw from all the diarrhea. Hopefully that little bit of stuffing is all there was. I would try to find the toy though and see if it looks like much more is missing you need to keep an eye out for.

Update: He ate all of the pumpkin and he has only gone potty twice since this morning. They have both been solid so hopefully we are feeling better.

Yay. Puppies have a lot of ups and downs. So much change for them when they are young and in a new home. Glad he's doing better.
