Ways to Increase coat growth? Empty
PostSubject: Ways to Increase coat growth?   Ways to Increase coat growth? EmptyWed Mar 09, 2016 6:09 pm

I was wondering if there is a way to get a shorter haired husky to grow his coat fuller and longer so that he is plush (or as close as he can get to it)? Does anyone happen to have a recipe for such a thing, preferably made with normal things I can find easily? I figure there must be something, since I know it can be accomplished with human hair follicles. The reason I ask is that I really like the plush coats, but in the event that my boy isn't a plushy, I'd like to make his coat as long and plush as possible Very Happy

Human hair and dog hair are not the same. Dog hair falls out once it gets to a certain length. This length is usually predetermined by genetics. There is no way to make a smooth haired dog suddenly have longer hair. Now you can make what hair they have more healthy so that it might seem "fluffier" or to treat the hair for a different look, but making it longer isn't going to happen. A good high quality diet and supplements such as fish oil and coconut oil can give the coat a better texture and add strength to the hair that is there. Regular brushing and blowing a coat out with a HV dryer can fluff up what coat a dog has but is temporary.

Jenn is right. Dog fur isn't like human hair. There are breeds who have hair where it keeps growing and growing until it's cut, but Huskies are not one of them. Their fur length and thickness is determined by genetics, and there's really no way to make it different. Your best bet is to feed your dog a high quality diet with fish oil. It'll make their coat brighter and more healthy, which may result in a fuller appearance. But if your Husky has a shorter coat, there's no way to make it become more plushy or wooly. It just is what it is.
