1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Advice needed on weight Empty
PostSubject: Advice needed on weight   Advice needed on weight EmptyTue Apr 19, 2016 7:05 am

Hello. We have a 9 month nearly 10 month husky. His weight Was 19.2 got down to 18.2 up to 19 and down to 18.5 all this in the space of two months. We feed him dry with half a can of wet mixed in. He eats normally. Does not usually eat all in one go but still finishes the first meal before the second. We feed him twice daily. Is his change in weight normal? Is it possible he is being over exercised. For a high energy breed. He is very chilled. He gets 2 walks one lasting 1 hour and the second lasting 30 mins

I'm assuming that's in kilos and not in pounds. Smile

Do you measure out his food so you know he is getting the same amount each time? It could also be an increase and decrease of treats, exercise, etc. There are several factors to how they can fluctuate weight.

I never weighed my boy that often to tell. I'm sure he fluctuated due to extra treats, more or less exercise, etc. Because if it's storming rain, we don't walk as much but when the weather is nice we will walk more and I'm sure that is a contributing factor to weight.

As long as he's staying in a healthy condition, I wouldn't focus so much on the numbers fluctuating. Unless they are extreme.

He is fluctuating between 42 and 39 pounds for future readers. A little small but still a pup so not out of the realm of proper size for age. I too think some fluctuation is acceptable. Big swings of weight are a little more worrisome. If he feels well, is eating, and you don't see all his ribs then he should be fine. Good conditioned dogs you will feel the last couple ribs as you run your hands lightly down their bodies and have a nice tuck to their bellies.
