I am looking into either building or buying a cart this spring so that I can run the girls. Does anyone own one? Have you ever built one?

I'd love to hear info on building one if anyone has any or if you find any building plans. My hubby would rather build a cart himself for running our sibe than buy one. He's one of those do it yourself-ers on stuff like that. I haven't found any DIY dog cart plans online to go off of as a starting point but I have been brainstorming on my own for a while. I'll be following this thread with interest.

I have been saving pictures of different ones I like, I just can't justify spending 1,000 - 2,000 on one!

I have an old Risdon Rig I bought used last winter.

I've heard that building a cart can cost as much as buying one but that might not always be true. I suggest asking around on the sled dog central forum--I know people over there have built their own.

IMO, the best way to go is to buy used. Sled dog central also has a classified page and something might pop up there. Smile

I just found this site:
http://www.k9carting.com/

You can harness up to 2 dogs at once, no where near as expensive as the other places I've looked.
Very Happy

Nice selection and I like the bigger diameter wheels as they'll be better when off road.

We have one of these carts which we use for Kiddies Rides at Christmas and at charity events.

They are totally unsuitable for running your dogs however as they have no brakes and are designed for walking rather than running. If the dogs ran with it and slowed suddenly, the cart would run over them. You would be much better with a three wheeled rig (which we use for dryland mushing in the UK or a scooter.

Rigs are much safer, they have disc brakes and you can run up to 8 dogs on them.
