Stool Issue - Food related? Empty
PostSubject: Stool Issue - Food related?   Stool Issue - Food related? EmptyWed May 11, 2016 12:34 am

So my husky pup is currently on Fromm Grain Free Heartland Gold Puppy Food, her poops are firmish kind of soft and of a yellow colour. I'm feeding her 3 cups a day (1 cup morning, afternoon, and evening), currently at 5 months (6 months on the 22nd) weighing at 41 pounds, her coat is great soft and shiny, she seems completely fine except for the poop. She typically poops 4-5 hours after eating during the day.

Is the yellow poop normal? I've read that it might just be food passing too quickly or something, I'm going to be contacting the vet tomorrow but just wanted to see what others have to say before tomorrow hits.

That's a pretty large female, it may indeed be the food, you might want to do 2 meals a day and cut it to 1 1/4 cups or a total of 2.5 cups a day. I know for my pup at 5 or 6 months I cut back to feeding twice a day. Typically soft poop is a result of over feeding, however, I would get a stool sample to rule out a parasite or worms.

Yeah she is but she's not completely overweight at all (if that's what you meant by large) she's lean and also she's just a pretty tall husky due to her dad being quite on the larger end of the spectrum, 70 pounds and also quite tall. We're kind of expecting her to be on the 55-60 pound side fully grown.

Should I still cut back on the food? We're not sure if she's getting enough as we feel she's on the thinner side which is why we up'd it to 3 cups recently.

I think what Renee meant was that with her age at the weight she is at she is on par to be larger than breed standard for adult female huskies. Adult females standards are 35-50 pounds and 20-22" tall at the shoulder. With her dad being so far out of standard that makes sense that she is possibly going to be pretty large as huskies go. Breed standard for adult males is 24" tall max and up to 60 pounds. To me, she looks like a healthy weight for her size so I wouldn't cut back much. Try swapping to just the two meals a day and see how she does. Fromm is a really good food and it might just be a little too rich for her. Especially if she was switched over to it not that long ago.

I'll start feeding her only twice a day, We've been on Fromm for 3 months now, I... never really noticed the yellowness or perhaps it just started once we've up'd the food but ahaha I need to start noticing it earlier Sad I'll see how it goes, thanks for all the advice!
