Roundworm in Dog Bed Empty
PostSubject: Roundworm in Dog Bed   Roundworm in Dog Bed EmptySat Apr 02, 2016 9:58 pm

So I purchased a new bed for my 8 week old husky this morning. It is almost 10:00 and I just found what appear to be roundworms in the crevice of her bed. I was planning on making a vet appointment for Monday but should I take her tomorrow? Is it possible that they would show up in her bed like that and not her stool?

Doug, this may sound condescending but ... you're suggesting that you think you've found roundworms without either vomit or feces?  Uh, no, it's VERY unlikely that they'd show up like that.

ETA: of course this is my opinion but worms aren't something to get overly upset about. Puppies (and dogs in general really) can get worms from all sorts of places. If it's the difference between an emergency visit on Sunday ($$$$$$$) or a regular visit on Monday ($$) I'd personally hold off till Monday.

Ugh... all this talk about worms is making me feel the creepy crawlies... 3 years ago we bought Colby a bed from Kmart and 2 days I was petting him and found what I thought was a tick. Turns out it was a dang bedbug. When I checked his bed, it was infested with them. By that time it was too late. We got rid of the bed, but in those 3 days they had already spread. Took him and the 2 cats out of the house and bombed it, washed them outside (have you ever tried to bathe a cat in a kiddie pool?), but still had them. Had to get rid of my bed, my couch, my living room and bedroom carpet, re-bomb the house, and then move furniture out of each room, inspect the furniture, and clean each room thoroughly. It was a complete nightmare. There are still nights where I feel like things are crawling on me.

Our mako (also from Maine) just tested positive for roundworm. He gladly gulped down 2 pills, had a couple extra poops and should now be all good. It was creepy at first, but now I've realized relatively normal.
