That is my dream squad. I've been trying to convince my husband to let me get rabbits again for the last year. Someday I will break him. I've had rabbits all my life up until about 6 years ago.

My sister raises rabbits - spins and knits.  She just got a new one:

Must have been the night for bad nights.  Sasha wanted to stay out last night so I had her on the front tether.  Went to bed shortly after midnight - normal for me - got woke up at about 3:00 because she'd wrapped the chain around a pole and couldn't get back to the porch.  If it weren't that I was concerned that her distress whine / howl might attract coyotes, I'd have left her.  Played around on the computer and got back to bed about 4:30.  At least the dogs were nice, they didn't wake me up till about 9:30!

My comment on rabbits:  Rabbits aren't pets, they're food ... and I'll leave that at that!  They're also a bloody nuisance in the garden!

I used to put my rabbit on a leash and walk him. Every year for pet day I would take him in and he would go around school with me and get petted. They can actually be litter box trained like a cat, but they chew like a puppy and they don't grow out of that.

My cousin used to raise rabbits to eat also. She had a couple that were pets and then they would eat the babies they had. I like just having them around as pets, but in a pinch if you get hard up for meat they are quick to breed and quick food to the table.

That rabbit is so cute, Amy. I think I want my next to be something like an Angora that I can do something more with than just look at or breed for food. My old rabbit was a palamino. He died about 6 years ago shortly after I went off to college. Not because I went to college, my mom took very good care of him while I was away, but he was 10 which is about all the longer they live when well taken care of. Here is a picture of him:

He was a pretty basic bunny. Freebee I got from a neighbor, but he had pizazz. Name was Rio. Would love to see a picture of the Velveteen Lop. I have seen some pictures and they look like they have a very divine coat pattern.

Jenn - my sister raises them for fur for spinning (that one was supposedly lilac or some such thing.) My mother used to raise Andorras...also for spinning.

ooook..i hear this a lot having to do with rabbits...i eat rabbit..hell i hunt wild rabbit..jackrabbit etc...are cottontails and jacks pests? yes..they are...are domesticated rabbits such as angora's new zealands, lops and dwarfs? no..they are bred for pets..for their coats..for SHOW...i love rabbit..tasts amazing..but i refuse to slaughter a $400 rabbit...the velvet lops are a newly descovered breed...and i am planning to be the first breeder here in california..for 7 years i bred and showed french and english angora rabbits..sold their wool as well...but i think the velvets are the buns i was meant to work with..fyi if anyone knows of someone with a BUCK...i need one for my program lol..thanks!

Aww....she's pretty. Looks super soft too. My cousin bred rabbits for a while. It was awful. Could be the market around here, but no one wants to pay for rabbits to make it worth it to try and keep the pair separated the rest of the year when you aren't breeding. Ugh...I miss having a rabbit. They are so fun to watch spazz out.
