So I'm pretty freaked out. The Mr was walking Luka on his lunch hour, and Luka found a mushroom and ate it before he could stop him.

We called the vet, and OF COURSE the little brat at the front desk is refusing to put us through to the vet, so the Mr's been trying to get him to take hydrogen peroxide....so far, no dice, isn't vomiting, gagging, or ANYTHING.

Time to rush to the vet (or rather, get yelled at by the Mr for offering to leave work to meet him at the vet)...Which leaves me here, posting about how scared I am....wish me luck.

Good Luck Dev!! All I know is that certain mushroom are more poisonous than others, and with the less ones, as long as they ate small amount should be no issue. Let us know what happens.

My mushroom experience is fairly minimal. Never had a dog that would go around eating many of them. The toad stools are the ones that can really mess a person or dog up. Basic mushrooms usually will give a bellyache or make them puke on their own if they do anything at all.

Well, he finally vomited. Pup has an iron stomach, it took three rounds of the hydrogen peroxide to induce it... Ended up calling and speaking to someone else at the vet since we got two different stories from the same girl the first time we called-she was much more helpful, she said the vet gives the all clean, but of course she follows that up with "just make sure to watch that he doesn't stop breathing..."

So glad to hear that you do not need to worry. Our first boy used to eat the mushrooms that would pop up in the yard during the wet season. I was very nervous the first time.

PS I see you are Cincinnati I am on the north side of town myself!!

@huskylear - We're up in the north as well! (Recently moved to West Chester since it's closer to my Mr's office).

Growing up in Florida we were always paranoid about dogs eating two things: mushrooms and toads... With all the rain that we've gotten here this "spring" our yard is full of mushrooms...we've been pretty good about pulling them as soon as they pop up, but of course if we don't see them in the dark of morning walkies, by lunchtime walkies they can be everywhere. Ugh. Our Mia doesn't really put anything she's not supposed to in her mouth, which is odd but a blessing.

I live near you maybe two highway exits depending where you live. HAHA I75 Exit 29 - SR 63 Monroe.
Mushrooms: I am not sure if the ones we have around here that will grow in an average yard are much more than a upset belly.

I have no idea what kind of mushroom he ate, never will. The Mr didn't check the vomit to see if it was in there whole or in pieces. Good news is he's doing fine now-feeling well enough to beg for chicken and annoy Mia. He's sure milking it for all its worth too-the Mr feels aweful for making him sick on purpose and Luka knows it, so he gives him sad eyes and grumbles when he's not getting attention from him.
