Pet Insurance wellness plan question Empty

So it is time for Kodiak's annual vet appointment and vaccinations and I noticed that his teeth have a lot of tartar on them and he badly needs a deep teeth cleaning. I called my vet and it runs from $200-500 just for that, and the vaccinations run another $200.00

I looked online and Embrace has a plan that will reimburse you up to $650 a year no matter what the routine procedure is (vaccinations, dental cleaning, flea/tick prevention). The cost is $66 a month, and says that you can cancel it at any time. Has anyone added this plan to their insurance and just cancelled it a month or two afterwards? If you add up the yearly cost, I don't know why anyone would purchase a wellness plan because you would pay more in premiums that you would get back every year. But if I just kept it for a month or two I could save a lot of money. Just curious if anyone else had done that and if they had any issue with cancelling or them paying out.

I don't have pet insurance. I probably should, but would have to wonder with a plan like that if there is any set amount of time you have to have the policy before they would pay out. I know with my own insurance I had to carry the plan for 3 months before it kicked in and would actually take care of anything. I would want to double check on something like that with this plan.

This particular plan as a 14 day waiting period for illnesses and 24 hour waiting period for injuries, but the wellness plan add on is effective immediately after you purchase the policy. That is the first thing I checked out.

I also contacted them and you can cancel anytime, but if you cancel the wellness plan and they have paid out more than you have paid in, you cannot get a wellness plan with them ever for ANY pet in the future. That's the catch to discourage people from signing up, getting their annual vet visit and cancelling after they get reimbursed. Which for me, I think I am willing to take those conditions to save over $500!

As long as you never need to have them get another cleaning it might be alright. Doesn't sound like a bad deal. Unless that carries with you forever and in 20 years when you have a new dog you might want it for. Then it might suck. But then what is the odds of being with that pet insurance that long really.
