Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. | Hello I just recently adopted a husky from a friend and she is 2 yrs old. She still hasn't been spayed yet. I really would like more huskies so I am thinking about letting her get pregnant. The thing is I don't know how to breed. I am thinking that dogs know how to naturally breed but I could be wrong. Anyone have an idea for me or should I maybe take her to a breeder to get puppies. Or should I just spay her and forget about a family. What will be the healthiest and best way for her. |

| First, you have a few things to learn (and I'm sure others will add more):
- Is she registered and do you have her papers? What's her pedigree look like? If you don't have them or don't know, stop now and jump the the end of my message, we don't need any more 'back yard breeders'.
- What are breed standards for a Husky? You want to make sure that your dog and any male dog with whom you consider breeding at the minimum meet these standards. Honestly, few dogs meet all of them.
- What tests need to be run to ensure that you're breeding a healthy dog? Again, you want to make sure that the dog you're breeding passes all these tests?
- What can go wrong during pregnancy and birth? Are you financially and emotionally capable of handling these expenses?
- What's your mindset about breeding? Breeding your Husky because he/she's pretty won't cut it.
- Are you financially capable of caring for 10-12 dogs if you can't find buyers for your pups? It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. In line with this are you willing to live with a dog who gets returned to you because they have 'problems'? Genetic and other problems occur and some owners can't afford the cash outlay to have the dog 'fixed'. Can you??
If that doesn't dissuade you, take a look at RescueMe. There are currently well over 200 Husky's nationwide on this one site who are in need of a home. Can you reasonably guarantee that you're not adding to this problem. Huskies are one of the current 'fashion' dogs (and have been for a while). Unless a new owner is willing to work with a dog, it'll end up in a shelter - and the chances are good that it'll be 'put down' (read killed) because there are too many of them. Do us all a favour, and do yourself and your girl one, get her spayed, please. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Thank you for the information I understand what you mean and I wouldn't want to contribute to the increase in their population only go see them ending put down. I have made a appointment at the vet to get her spayed. Thank you again |

| No, Thank you!! for being a responsible pet owner. Since she's just two, you and her have many happy years ahead of you, enjoy them!
How about some pictures of your little lady - - - and don't be shy, come back and chat a bit, eh?? _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
