Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hello,

My name is Megan. I have a 1 year old GSD/ACD mix who has had just about every health issue/ behavioral issue imaginable. Props to her we haven't had to go to the vet in 3 months and we have worked through most of her fears! I also have a 2 year old cat who is terrible, but my boyfriend won't let me get rid of him.

We are about to move into a house and the plan was always to get another dog when we moved. So the hunt started and I decided I either wanted a GSD or a Husky. My boyfriend's brother's fiance has 2 huskies and I am obsessed with them. I weighed out the pro's and con's of each breed. I knew I wanted a high drive and high energy dog to keep up with Layla and myself (we run 3-4 miles a day 6-7 if its cold. As well as hike frequently). Huskies got an extra point for being sociable (Layla isn't a fan of people unless another dog shows her its ok first). My SIL (easier than typing out boyfriends brothers fiance) is really into the dryland mushing, which I think is so cool, and I would love to get into that which was another point husky, and then to make everything fall into place my SIL informed me that her breeder has a litter ready in March (right in the time were wanting) and she is getting one as well! So I am joining the husky club and am so beyond excited.

Now just to learn to grooming and to try to hold off from buying all the puppy stuff now.

Welcome to the forum. Biggest suggestion I have is shore up those behavioral issues as much as possible with your current dog before your pup arrives. Huskies are head strong and if your other dog has any bad habits a husky will undoubtedly pick up on them and amplify them. Good luck.

Lay's problems have been completely worked though other than she won't let strangers pet her unless they have a dog with them.

I started reworking all of her basic commands again this week to make sure she is on point when new pup gets here, with extra focus on the "watch me" and "place" command. Thinking those will be some of the most helpful in dealing with a stubborn pup.

Any others you can think of that might help?

'Leave it' and 'drop' are used a lot by most of us around here.
