I am an avid hiker and take my 1.5 year old husky on all my adventures. With summer around the corner I am a little apprehensive to bring her with me. Does anyone hike in the summer with their Huskies? Tips and tricks to keep them happy and healthy on the trail ?

I do - plenty of water, plenty of water, breaks in the shade...plenty of water. Oh, and a leash. Don't know where you are but rattlesnakes scare me...short leash

| Mountain man, I live in the desert with temps in the 90's and up so we don't do much daytime walking. I'm not a morning person so my pups get out in the evening - it's still hot but with the sun going down it's tolerable. My dogs love getting out and getting a chance to run as much as I'll let them.
As Amy says take plenty of water - and let the dogs carry that - take plenty of breaks and most of all, work up to it. If your dogs, like mine, have been loafing their way through the winter you don't want to start them off with a 20 mile hike during the heat of the evening.

I take mine all over in the summer. A few summers ago we were in Arkansas and last summer we were in Kentucky. All places that get super hot and are humid to boot. We look for shaded trails, stop for water, if there's streams and creeks around I let them swim. For shorter walks in the hot I have the Ruffwear Swamp vest for them. I use it on shorter walks though because for super long hikes it's hard to pack enough water to keep them wet enough. On walks where water is readily available through nature it isn't so bad. _________________

Lots of water, ice cubes or frozen treats, wipes, and plenty of breaks. I think this all applies for the both of you, lol!
