Hi and welcome to the forum! A couple questions...... do you know how tall she is or if not do you have pics of her standing from the side as well as from above? Do you know about how old she is? A few things I can mention......most huskies do not do well on grain inclusive kibble. If she poops a lot like more than 3 times a day and or she poops a lot when she does go, she is not utilizing everything she is consuming. Most adult huskies, on average eat 1-2 cups kibble a day. Huskies tend to eat 20-25% less kibble than other breeds. And lastly huskies are a medium breed dog, she may, if she is on the younger side of 2 years old, may still be filling out. Breed standard for a husky female is about 35-50 pounds, and under 2 could very well be in the low 30's. The Kirland's isn't a terrible food, but for a husky imho it is too low in protein and fat and that is typically what huskies use for energy, and because of their high metabolism, probably burns off the food faster than she can get it in her, and therefore not gaining weight, and then with the heavy grain load she is eating a lot to fill her, but doesn't stick to her. As far as food, maybe switch to Costco's grain free, the current food is at 23% protein, huskies do best at 25-35% and the fat is at 14% and again huskies do better at 17-23%. Since I assume she is young, I am going to guess that the Basophil number is only slightly off, that is caused by an allergen and not a liver issue, otherwise the vet should be running more tests. My guess is the grains elevated the numbers.

When you say the Costco brand lamb and rice, is it the Kirkland or is it Natures a Domain?

Natures Domain is grain free, as Renee suggested for you, and also higher in protein, I think it's st 31 or 33%.

Your other dog is a husky? If not, that alone might explain why he gained more weight in a shorter amount of time. Huskies just don't gain weight in short amounts of time, it's not in their nature, I'd actually be more concerned if she would gain a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Especially since when you got her, she was underweight as you said, her body has "adjusted" itself and will probably take some time to repair itself. It took some time to get in this condition and it'll take time to get her out of this condition. Personally, I'd not push it and let her heal herself in her own time. Like you are seeing in her soft/enormous poop when she eats too much, it can start affecting her health in other areas.

Wow, she is gorgeous! Hard to believe someone could neglect such a sweet looking little girl. Glad you were able to get her and show her a better life Smile

She is small, she looks to be about the size of my little girl. It's not an abnormal size, just on the smaller end of the scale is all so don't worry about that part. She is thin though from what I can see in her waist. The Natures Domain that Costco sells, is not at all expensive (I don't know what the price difference is though between it and the Kirkland) I've fed it and if I remember correctly, it's like $33 for 35 lbs (?) you may find your Shiba does well on it too, even though it's grain free. Sometimes it's the formula and not necessarily one or two ingredients that make the difference. I had mine on the salmon and sweet potato but they have other formulas too, I think even lamb and rice. 2 cups a day is what mine eat. I do add stuff like eggs and/or hamburger, things like that but really, your little girl is eating a good amount so it just may take more time. She's tiny too so I wouldn't want much more weight but you do wanna fill her in a bit. Besides food, just make sure she's getting lots of walks and exercise cuz a lot of filling out is also building muscle. If her previous owner could neglect a proper diet, I'm sure exercise was neglected too. Hopefully Renee will come back and advise you further, as well as others! All I can say is she sure is pretty and I hope you stay around and show us her progress Smile

Hey Sarah, wow she is lovely and so glad you and her found each other! To me your sweet girl appears to be under 2 years of age. Her teeth are nice and white and no wear is apparent with her canines, so I am going to say she is an adult and under weight. I know your shiba is doing great, and also a cutie btw, on the lamb and rice, but I don't think your husky girl is. If it is feasible I would go with the Nature's Domain grain free that Costco offers, I have a feeling it will help her tremendously with her weight gain and with her coat. Things that you can add to the grain free and what I recommend as far as a feeding schedule is 1 cup kibble in the morning, if you are available mid day either a grain free snack, or 1/2 cup kibble and at night another cup kibble and add an egg raw is fine and healthy for her or lightly scrambled (in her case it is fine to use a little coconut oil or butter) or soft boiled egg, you can also add in 2-6 ounces (start on the low end and work up) of either raw or cooked chicken thighs (without bone, for now take skin off too much may cause diarrhea), or 85/15 or 80/20 hamburger cooked or raw, or turkey burger, you can rotate thru those items and use as a topper. Start with 1 egg, or 2 ounces of any of those meats, if her poops are fine you can increase the meat to 3 ounces and so on, watch poops, if loose then go back to the amount she did well on and stay there for a few days before increasing again. You want a slow steady weight gain. It is slightly tough to say, but I am guessing she needs 5-10 pound weight gain. This may take months so be patient. The meats and eggs that I suggested are considered middle ground for protein:fat ratios, just an added boost to the grain free kibble, so you are adding calories that she can use vs the grains that add calories but she is not utilizing, you can visually see from her poops. I really hope that you stick around and give updates, and if in a month if she is still not slowly creeping up on weight, I can give you some specific weight gain recipes that are healthier than the norm found online. lastly if you can get preferably cold pressed organic coconut oil (any type is actually fine, the cold press is just a little better to the environment Smile ) I would give her a teaspoon of coconut oil every day for 2 weeks, and then you can increase up to 1/2 tablespoon since she is very tiny, make it a slow and small increases to the 1/2 tablespoon, but I would probably back off to every other day once you reach the max amount. This will also help in weight gain, and help her coat, and it does have some healing properties. I will mention that too much fat for some dogs is not always good, so that is why I do recommend not giving max amount daily, once you hit the max amount. Smile I hope that helps you some. Did you mention the names of your 2 cuties? Anyways, please ask questions if I wasn't clear on something, happy to help. Smile Renee

I didn't see an answer to the age question, so I'm assuming it's unknown?

I don't think she looks concerning at all. Especially if she's eating/drinking well and acting normally. Her height to weight ratio sounds on target actually.

My boy stayed really thin like that up until about 3 yrs of age before he finally filled out. And no amount of extra food influenced when he would actually fill out.

If she's healthy and eating well on a quality diet then I wouldn't worry so much and let nature take its course. I don't put too much stock in the vets opinion on weight either because they don't always realize this is normal in younger huskies.
