PostSubject: What else am I going to need??   Sun Apr 30, 2017 11:54 pm

I pick up Finley in exactly one week and I'm so excited! On top of that though, I'm anxious and nervous lol! I feel like I've bought pretty much everything she's going to need but I'm sure I'm missing something. So far I've got:

crate
bowls
PLENTY of toys, including Kong
nature's miracle
collar/leash/harness
brush
food and treats

Here's my girl with her huge ears that need some growing into! Anyone have any suggestions about what else I will be needing?

She is ADORABLE!

i think you got it all! Congratulations on your new pup!!! Smile

I know it won't be easy the closer you get to the big day but...try and get as much sleep as you can, cuz for a little while you'll be waking up several times a night to take her out for bathroom breaks.

Thank you so much! I'm so excited to bring her home, even though I know the first few weeks will be rough during nights. I'm not sure what to expect the first night!

How far do you have to go to get her? With me, I left at 7am and came home at 9pm...so we slept, LOLOL. First nite was pretty uneventful. It's as they become more comfortable in their new home that it can get a bit more...restless Wink

9 hours one way...I'm in VA and she's in Indiana so I'm staying in a hotel the night before I get her and picking her up at 7 am the next morning. Not ideal, but I want to get her home asap and her breeder works full time so I'm working with it!!

So your first night will be similar to mine, I'm thinking Smile you all will be tired. That's a good thing Smile

My suggestion would be to have her in the crate somewhere where you can hear her moving around so you know when she needs to go out. Other than that, I think you got it. Don't stress, it's really not that bad. Huskies are generally very good as young puppies.

We've got her crate set up near the foot of the bed and I'm willing to sleep on the floor if need be! Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!! Smile

I wouldn't go as far as sleeping on the floor. Don't want her to get used to that. The sooner you get her on her new routine the better. don't want to have to break her of something you never intended to be a permanent thing. Just being in the same room should be enough.

She is really cute.

Thanks! I've heard some people on here saying they've done that so I guess I assumed it would help but I definitely don't want to start any bad habits!

Omigosh she is so cute!!! You sound so prepared! If you're anywhere in the northern VA area, let me know. I'm in Warrenton. Good Luck -- enjoy your sweet new puppy!

I'm one of those people in here who has said that. While I totally agree with TwisterII, I can also say that neither of my dogs has suffered I'll effects from it. The crate at the foot of your bed should suffice, I did that with my previous huskies. With Kohdi and Mishka, the crates were bigger and I was lazy.

As far as "starting habits" , between having the crate near you or you next to the crate, they would both have to be broken eventually, anyways. but honestly, I didn't have any problems either way.

Hearing that I seem prepared makes me feel sooo much better! I'm in harrisonburg currently so I'll keep you in mind for sure!! Haha, I guess I'll find out next week what works best for us but hopefully being by the bed will suffice!
