| I have a 9 month old female siberian husky who hasn't been eating lately.. We have tried changing the dog food, but she still doesn't eat. She picks at the food but doesn't eat like our other dog. We are afraid she is losing too much weight. She eats people food but not dog food, (like most dogs.). Does anyone have suggestions? |

| Stop giving her people food? It's rare for a dog to starve itself. But if she doesn't eat the kibble and then you giver her something she prefers, you are rewarding her for it. What food are you feeding (brand, flavor), and how much are you feeding her? Does she not eat at all, or just a portion of what you give her? What is your other dog? Huskies are generally pretty energy efficient compared to other dogs. Quite a few people here feed their huskies raw, so that is something you could look into also.
If you could provide a little more info, we may be able to offer better help.

| We only give her people food on a rare occasion. the first food we tried was Science Diet Chicken and Barley reciepe. She ate that since Thanksgiving, (when we got her) until the other day. Then we switched to Purina One Smart blend Lamb and Rice Formula. We give her about 1 1/2 to 2 cups per meal, when she does eat. She eats a very small portion of the food. Our other dog is a Miniature Pinscher. |

| Assuming that you're feeding her twice a day - that's 3 - 4 cups of food a day. That's a whole lot of food!!!
Most of us, I think, will average 1.5 - 2 cups for our dogs per day - about half of what you're feeding. If she is eating, just not as much as you'd expect, it's because she's a husky and they really don't eat as much as 'the bag', vets and other people will tell you she "should".
If you can, a picture of her from the side on her level and one straight down from the top. She should have a well defined "tummy tuck", her ribs should be feel-able but not visible and her hip joints - in a normal healthy husky - will feel like they're too obvious.
Husky's are svelte - they're not stocky like a lab or a bulldog, they should look more like a greyhound but with a lot more hair! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Yeah, I think you may be overfeeding her. 2 cups a day of your food should be enough, and keep in mind that any treats she gets is in addition to that.
