PostSubject: Rhododendron dangerous for huskies?   Mon Jun 26, 2017 8:31 pm

If it grows our guy likes to chew on it. Including a Rhododendron bush in our yard which I read is poisonous to dogs, but I don't know if that's just the flowers or the leaves too. I've caught him chewing on the leaves but didn't notice any problems after.

Any other warnings are appreciated. I know for example that Salmon is super dangerous for Golden Retrievers. Do Huskies have any similar vulnerabilities?

Thanks!

All parts of a rhododendron are potentially a problem for all dogs. Fence it off or something. Don't let him chew on it. He may not have had issues yet but that could change easily if he ingests a few leaves instead of just chewing on them. Philodendrons, azalea, and some lilies are a few more common plants that are bad for dogs. Huskies are more seizure prone so things that can trigger seizures like rosemary should be avoided if possible. I can't think of any odd ball breed specific stuff right now but others might.

A while back, i put together this list, which is a list of many things but not common house plants.

I did find poisonous plants on the pet poison help line but didn't find a list such as I'd put together for fruits & veggies.

Does anyone know of one??

The biggie on bad flowers is lily of the valley.

OK, was going to copy paste list but way too long.

Thanks for that link Amy, that's an excellent list. 'Course when you start looking at that you have to wonder if there's anything you can put in a garden that's safe ... that is one long list!!

And they do list the plants that are non-toxic after the toxic list. Marijuana toxic, poison oak non toxic? Whaaaa? lol

OK, I'm getting rid of the Rhody. We also have mint, peace lily and english ivy everywhere.

Thanks guys!

I have a ton of plants that are toxic in my yard and in my house. I spray them with bitter apple spray until the new wears off. My newer dog I have noticed does like to snap at one of my houseplants that he shouldn't while I'm at work. Bitter apple spray has worked some and so has tobasco sauce. Once the new wears off or he gets tired of his mouth burning every time he gets into a plant he shouldn't he will leave it alone. My mom's put went through a phase as well where he ate the tops off of all of her tulips. He did grow out of it.
