1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

PostSubject: Dog Park Behavior    Dog Park Behavior EmptyFri Aug 04, 2017 10:44 pm

Anyone else's pup do this? When my keys jingle and I grab her collar/leash she knows it's park time, so she gets excited and runs to sit next to the car so we can go. But when we get there, she mostly sits and observes from the bench. I'd say she spends 90% of our park time in that bench. It's not often she finds a dog she likes enough to play with. She gets annoyed by most dogs there. Anyone else have a dog who prefers to observe??? (Mind you, shes not like that at home, at all)

How many times have you taken her? Mine warmed up really quick but a lot of people I talk to have told me their dogs wouldn't interact or play the first few times they went.

We've been going twice a week for 4 months now. Like I said, shes excited to go but I think she just thinks the dogs there are too high strung. A lot of the dogs seem like they probably get to do what they want at home. So she just hangs out by the bench. She'll leave it if something really her interest but otherwise she'll just watch. She even hangs around if people have taken up the bench space so that as soon as they get up she'll climb up and lay down. Shes not frightful, she just hates everyone

Mishka, my girl, is an observer. We don't go to dog parks, but anywhere there are other dogs, like say our hikes up the mountain, she chooses to observe them from big boulders. If Kohdi is with her, she's much different, I think she feeds off his cues, but alone, she is fascinated by watching other dogs, with not as much interest in actual interacting with them.

Yeah, some dogs just like to observe! My girl looooves to play, and she's still a puppy so that's expected but I see a ton of huskies at our dog park who just do their own thing. Nothing wrong with it, its just their personality I guess!
