Husky - Teeny Tiny New Husky Pup...!? Empty

Hi all!

New to the forums and wanted to pick your brains about the new Husky puppy we rescued!

We recently rescued a 9 week old Siberian Husky pup!  His mother was rescued while pregnant (she was only 9 months old! Crying or Very sad) with 8 puppies, and I think it was just assumed daddy was a Husky by how the puppies turned out when born.

I have been searching and lurking this forum and multiple Husky resources on the internet for about a week now about his size.  When he got him, he was 8lbs.  He came with roundworm and giardia (which they had been medicating) and we later found out he had coccsidia (which he is not on medication for as well). He had a bad case of diarrhea which we treated with boiled chicken, rice, and a tad bit of pumpkin. He was also neutered at 9 weeks, as per the rescue's policy (and I believe a new Spay/Neuter law in NJ for rescues, shelters, breeders, and sellers).  When I brought him to my vet, he wasn't concerned by his weight, my vet just mentioned he prefers puppies his age with a bit more weight, so feed him 3x a day instead of two, which the shelter was doing. I also asked if I should be giving him any vitamins, as I read, if a puppy so young is neutered, it could cause joint problems, or stunt his growth, but my vet said he didn't see a need.

He has a VERY short coat (looks like a racing coat... but can you really tell that at 9 weeks old?), and very thin face - none of those cute, chubby Husky cheeks I normally see!

He's about 9.5lbs now, he's eating 1/2 cup of ToTW Puppy Salmon kibble 3x a day. I just want to know if anyone else has ever seen such small Husky pups and such short coats at this age. All 7 of his other siblings were tiny too.  I want to make sure I am doing everything I can to make sure he is healthy and happy and grows up big and strong. Smile

Thanks everyone! <3

Yeah, a picture would have been smart (ahah oops!).  It's hard to take a photo of his body since he is always running, jumping, and being a spaz 99% of the time! Photos of him are just massive blurs!  Here's what I can do for now:

Edit: There we go!

From your description and the pictures, it sounds to me like you've got yourself a pretty normal Husky pup. Considering his start in life, having no idea how mom survived in the early part of her pregnancy and the diseases he had when you got him - well, it looks like the bad start has turned into puppy heaven for him.

If the question in all of that was "Does he look like he's all Husky?" You've got it right, at that age it's a little hard to really tell, but he looks Husky to me. Thanks for rescuing!

... and I love that first picture where he's looking up at you as you're taking his picture -- "Whatcha doing, dad??"
