PostSubject: Re: NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE   NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE EmptyTue Feb 15, 2011 6:17 pm

My experience is that young huskies NEED to be in the crate. It protects them and protects your stuff. How old is your baby? My 12 week old is still whining some but does much better when he's very tired. Perhaps when you see her beginning to fall asleep you could put her in it for a few minutes as you try to acclimate her to the crate. We crate our baby at night and after the first few nights he has never whimpered. He still cries when he has to be crated in the afternoon because that is normally playtime.
I hope someone can give you a few tips. I do think crating is worth it!

NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE Empty
PostSubject: Re: NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE   NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE EmptyTue Feb 15, 2011 6:28 pm

Not unless you don't want her crate trained. Smile

Are you giving in to her when she cries? I know it's difficult, but you MUST ignore her when she screams in there. If she has everything that she needs, then you need to treat her like a baby. You know you've provided all you can, so she just needs to learn to cry herself to sleep because she won't get attention for throwing a fit.

Does she cry the moment you put her in there? How long until she cries if not? How long is she usually in there?

If all these things are being done, I would start over. Have you read the crate training thread? (Click Here) It talks about the importance of creating positive associations. Leaving treats randomly in there during the day, etc. Koda, for example, is NEVER scolded in his crate. If for any reason he thinks that I'm getting mad at him, he runs in his crate and hangs out in there because he knows that I won't raise my voice to him in there. It's his safe place. That's what you want her to feel like.

Also- a good way to help out, especially with a puppy, is only putting her in there after she's exhausted. So, have a good romp around the house, play fetch, do some training....get her physically and mentally exhausted so all she'll WANT to do is sleep.

And no matter what, NEVER NEVER NEVER let her out if she's whining or making noise. It will just reinforce the behavior.

Good luck!

she is 8 weeks, I only put her in for an hour, I am following the crate training thread, I just feel but, I did not take her out until she stopped crying though, but it was hard. I am bringing her to work with me because she is young but I will need to start leaving her soon, I don't want her to cry all day.

PostSubject: Re: NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE   NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE EmptyWed Feb 16, 2011 10:28 am

Can you keep her awake playing a little longer before going into the crate? A couple of hours fully awake might buy you a couple of quiet hours. My dogs all responded instantly to a Earth shaking "NO!", when whining in the crate. Definitely not something I would try on a Husky pup though. They seem a little more emotional than other breeds. Then there's just tuning it out and not caring, unless you have shared walls and the crying will cause problems.

Oh yeah, I forgot something. I toss in an article of clothing from running (yeah, ewww) instead of a blanket, preferably a shirt or jacket. This of course only works if the dog isn't shredding your clothes anyway.

I try to walk her, but I guess its because she is too young, doesn't want to.. I play with her but I now know she is ADD.. I play she runs off and sits, maybe she needs more time. She is doing great on the potty training waits till I take her outside, actually walks to the door when she wants to go. I hope it last. I will try to get her to play more before putting her in. she is such a baby, I sit next to her crate and touch her to comfort her and it stops her; but that defeats the idea.

NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE Empty
PostSubject: Re: NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE   NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE EmptyWed Feb 16, 2011 10:48 am

I have a similar problem involving crying in the crate. Both of my boys are crate trained, they know that it's their bed. But in the morning, as soon as my bf leaves for work, my black Lab starts crying excessively and LOUD. He's not desperate to use the bathroom, as soon as I get up and even sit in the living room he will stop. I think he just wants me up. Any way, I have tried waiting it out, I have sat and waited in bed for 2 hours once and he didn't stop. Any suggestions?

I think since she is so young and you are always with her, she will have separation anxiety when the time comes for you to leave her home by herself anyway. Whether she's in the crate or not, she will be sad. Our first husky quickly saw the crate as her "bed" and also a place of security. My husband would yell when watching football on TV and she would run to her crate and hide there. I really have no other advice other than to take the advice on the crate training thread mentioned above and stay strong! Neutral I did not crate my first husky until she had eaten the entire handle of a toilet brush, chewed through the water line to the toilet, ingested some birth-control pills AND chewed up an ink pen (ink all over the carpet). After all that, I guess I found it easier to put up with the whining and crying as she got used to the crate! Wink

The first few nights we had Siku we crated her in a different room and she SCREAMED the whole night! I would wake up every 3 or 4 hours to let her go potty, but inbetween that, I just put in ear plugs and went to bed. Tough love worked for me and a few days later she was quite in her crate. Just be strong and patient.

Hailey used to do this. I think it was sweat and adrenaline.

You haven't given us much detail on what you are doing with her besides simply leaving her in the crate. Are you making it fun for her? Does she have toys in there?

The MOST IMPORTANT thing that you could be doing right now is just doing everything in your power to create positive associations. Are you home with her during the day? If so, drop some treats off in the crate randomly once in a while (maybe while she's playing in another room) so that she can wander in and find them. Save ONE treat that is HIGH VALUE for the CRATE ONLY. For ours, it's marrow bones. They ONLY get their raw marrow bones in their crate. Same with peanut butter kongs. This makes the crate "fun awesome treat time, who cares where mamma is."

Without much detail on what you are doing, there's not much more that I can suggest other than keep at it. This doesn't happen overnight.

ETA: Merged with old topic to keep it organized since this is the same poster and same pup Smile This gives new posters more to work with.

I have two dogs that can leave wet spots that are not due to sweat, urine, or water. Dogs, when really stressed, tend to pant a lot and that can lead to lots of dripping out of their mouth. My husky is like this, if he gets either really hot or stressed he pants like crazy and drips saliva with a water-like consistency all over...he can definitely create puddles on the floor. Faith also makes puddles inadvertently but it's not stress or overheating, with her she has an overshot bite and therefore "leaks" saliva out of her mouth almost constantly. Everywhere that she lays she leaves a puddle behind. She has two blankets in her crate that she sleeps on at night and EVERY morning her blankets are all wet. Rolling Eyes She also has a "leaky" nose too, I've never seen a dog drip water out of their nose before but Faith's nose drips all the time (and yes, she's perfectly healthy). Just offering other alternatives for the wet crate.

As for the crying in the crate, I echo pretty much everything already said by Tori.

The only reason I said sweat and/or adrenaline with Hailey is the smell that accompanied her. She was "wet" on her skin/fur, but her and the room SMELLED like dog kennel. This was back when we first got her and her crate training was not 100%. The smell was seriously horrible. It made us practically sick to our stomachs. So although, I very much agree with Val and there could be a completely harmless explanation, I'm pretty sure with Hailey it was more than that.

The point is still the same though... the training making the crate a positive place needs to happen Smile Regardless of why she is wet, it sounds like she isn't comfortable in her crate yet and in general, that's usually on the owner to make her so. Smile

I think I must be really lucky with my boy. He's 12 weeks now and I don't use a crate. He sleeps in the kitchen at night. At one point I was getting only 2 hours sleep and was like a zombie at work. (like having a new born baby but without the maternity leave!!). All I did was leave him to his howling and crying (driving me and the kids temporarily insane) but when he did something good like be quiet, or go to the door to be let out, go really over the top with praise. I come home every lunch time to let him out for a wee and then play with him with his toys wearing him out. Then when I come home I just let him out with out talking to him, let him do his business, call him back in the house then over the top praise. 2 weeks and he only needs to be let out once during the night and doesn't howl or cry. He has his teddies and Kong toy to keep him occupied. I think with my boy is when he's awake he's constantly occupied and is always doing different games each day with different treats. They are so intelligent and get bored with the same old routine so when it's time for training or playing, mix things up a bit. I've found him so much easier than my dobermann. It's so easy to molly coddle a new puppy but if you set the boundries early and gain the dog's trust and respect it makes your relationship so much easier in the long run. I know my method isn't what everyone would do, but each to their own and each dog learns differently like us humans :-)

NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE Empty
PostSubject: Re: NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE   NON STOP CRYING IN CRATE EmptyMon Sep 18, 2017 8:04 pm

I have had my 12 week old Husky for a full week. I read all the ways to slowly introduce her to the crate. I started by feeding her in the crate with the door open. Then would leave her in the crate for 30 minutes to a half an hour. We put her into the crate at 11:00pm at night and take her out at 6:00 am. She isnt crated until 8:00am. I have toys and a blanket inside the crate. The issues is that she crys all night long. She also poops in the crate. She only poops in the crate and holds her pee. The poop is not runny and not to hard. We take her outside and she will poop outside. We wait 15 minutes after she poops outside, (to make sure she is done) Then she poops in the crate. She also howls all night long. This has been a full week and the past 3 nights she howls. does not stop. I have not slept in 3 nights because its none stop howling. Any tips to help?

Im running out of ideas, I know its been a week, but the issues is she goes all night long. Stops for about 5 minutes and then is back to howling. I am picking up a CBD medicine for her today. Its suppose to help with the whining but any else ideas?

Where is the crate...living room basement bedroom?

She might do better closer to you. Also, I think at 12 weeks she may need a potty break half way through the night...She is, after all, just a baby.

What time is her last feeding at night? Maybe feed earlier to stop the pooping in the crate.

Maybe also some sort ofc rhythmic noise...old fashioned tick tock alarm clock or metronome, Maybe a heating pad poor hot watery bottle outside the crate but about tbd side. But make certain she can't pull it into the crate. Oh...And do you have a crate divider tho make the crate smaller to discourage pooping on the crate?
