Exercise Schedule Help! Empty

Hello all!

I'm hoping to get some advice on some sort of activity that will keep my husker entertained. So she's about a year and a half. I've learned some more information - before I adopted her, she was at an abusive and neglecting home that kept her outside in a cage all the time. I'm assuming she's never learned to focus her attention towards a toy. I have a tuffy rabbit, a treat dispenser (she's not fond of treats either), a tug toy, a kong bone, a rubber stick with a bottle in it, and a femur bone. None of them catch her attention. I tried to roll around this polygonal (correct term?) with a ball in it, to show her I was playing with it, no go. Only way she'll touch the kong bone is if it has peanut butter on it. Even then, there's no chewing.

I just discovered today that she likes the natural chew sticks, but she finished it within 5 minutes.

Now, here's the thing. I want to make sure she's getting enough stimulation. I would love to stimulate her mentally, but she doesn't like the treats other than chicken (which I suppose I could use). How does one get a dog to do something without a reward?!

Anywho, the main thing is, all I can do to entertain her is to take her for walks. I am planning to get a long lead to let her run herself silly. But I feel like that's not enough! I mean it might be, but otherwise she just gets cuddles and lays on the couch or the floor. And that's when my worry starts setting in. I look at her and feel like I'm not doing enough.

What other things have you guys come up with? I want her to have a happy life. We don't have a yard, otherwise I'd let her do that all the time.

For example: currently she's laying down under my chair as I'm at the computer, but she has her eyes open. Wouldn't that be a sign of boredom? I don't want her to become depressed.

Visit an off leash dog park; go out and hike, bike, skate, ski, run, (insert other outdoor activity) with her.

how long have you had her now? rescued huskies with abuse will take time to come out of their shell in a new home, i would give her a few good months to settle in and you will start to see her true personally out.
have you tried squeaky toys or antlers? my older 2 have been hit or miss on toys but the puppy is all about them.
Training is great metal work, can you work on that even if she does not like treats, positive rewards like belly rubs or something?

I wouldn't worry too much. At the moment Z'ev is on his blanket sleeping next to my chair. Ami on his blanket next to Wayne's chair. Neither particularly interested in toys.

I'd v you're looking for training treats, string cheese cut on pea size pieces is good one. Ditto hot dogs or chicken. Or you can try a bag of full moon real chicken strips.

If you walk her a few miles in the morning, a good hour to two after school/work and then 30 minutes or so before bed, she should be week.exercised. Walks are great bonding times. A longer hike in your time off is always welcome with my boys.

Honestly, my best advice is to just chill out, relax and let your girl get to know you in her way and time. Mixed I with simple training...sit, down, come, place, heel, waiting at thresholds.

Dogs, like people, all have their own personality. Some are active, others aren't. Some people can sit around all day doing nothing and be perfectly content, other people need to be constantly busy or they go nuts.
Huskies tend to lean to the active side of the spectrum for dogs, but that doesn't mean they are all hyper crazy dogs.

First thing, giver her time to open up and for the two of you to learn each other's personalities.
Make sure toys are available. If she has access to toys but doesn't play with them, that's her choice.
Toys and chews aren't so much mental stimulation as they are just a way to release energy and stay busy. If you are looking for mental stimulation, focus on training. Train new behaviors, hide food and make her find it, introduce her to new activities. Get creative.
