I’m getting my dog soon, and I’m trying to doggy proof my home. I have three cabinets in particular that I’m trying to keep the dog out of. Do you all think that these sliding cabinet locks will keep him out? Even though he’s house broken, I know I should still lock the chemicals. Let me know what you guys do. Thanks!

Get a carabiner or 2 at any hardware store instead of plastic locks.

Make sure small items like knick knacks, shoes, remotes, etc. are always picked up. Tuck wires out of sight and behind heavy cabinets, and most of all if you are really worried about your dog being super nosey and into things, crate train and put it in the crate when you can't be with it. That frankly is the best dog proofing you can do. _________________

I like the idea of locking the cabinets where chemicals are stored- just in case. Crating for sure. You can also keep the dog tethered to you when it's not in it's crate. Start small with training by using a bedroom with just a few things in it - some the dog can play with and some it can't. Use the leave-it command for the off-limit items and offer the correct item with praise once they take it. Lastly, you should probably budget for new shoes, a new couch and a cabinet or two just in case.
