Hello everybody! I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself....ah who am I kidding, that's not what you want to hear. So ok, meet my little Eowyn Smile

She got home on Friday night and so far I think she views us as keepers!

I joined a couple of weeks ago to get as much advice as I could (I had a laundry list of questions and found just about every single one of them on here). This is a great encyclopedia of Husky knowledge here and I truly thank you all for all of the information and experience you provide.

The only oddity we are dealing with now is with her not wanting to eat. We had a 3 hour car ride to get home so on Friday night I just assumed it was from an uneasy stomach. Yesterday I introduced her to the giant dog run I put up in the yard and we had so much fun outside with the kids. But she still refused to touch her food OR water. We have the same food she's been eating (they sent us home with a bag of it) so I think she doesn't like her dish. I put it in her kennel for her to eat and she attacked the dish (spilled it everywhere). She will eat her "training treats" that I give her when she goes to the bathroom but nothing else.

As far as water goes, again, I think she's afraid of the shiny dish. As soon as we go outside she spends the first few minutes just munching on snow but she won't touch the water in the dish.

At the end of the day she's still only 2 days removed from mom so I think the nerves are still settling. But I very much look forward to being a part of this amazing community and learning something new each and every day. So again, thank you for all that you do here!

I'll check back often and keep up with pics & video.

Give it time. She will come around. You may use the crushed ice side of your ice maker if you have some and offer that to her. Healthier than snow and you can start transitioning to less solid water. Also sometimes adding a little water to their food to gravy it will entice to eat.

She's very cute.

That is kinda odd. Did you happen to notice what kind of dish she was eating out of at the place you got her from? She won't even eat from the ground once she's spilled it? Pups do get stressed when they are pulled out of their "home" and getting used to their new home but puppies need their nutrition, you really don't want to let it go much longer. Have you tried hand feeding her, kibble by kibble? With the water, ugh, she needs to drink, maybe try a different bowl. When Kohdi was a puppy, he'd dig the water out of shiny bowls but then would drink the rest. She needs water though so I'd say maybe just try a smaller bowl, less shiny. How old is she? With her crate, have you tried the water and food dishes that clip to the inside of the crate?

Look forward to your future posts/pics/videos! Welcome to the forum

I haven't tried those dishes yet but the rest of what you said is spot on. She's completely terrified of the shiny bowls. She won't touch the water out of the bowl but when we were outside i gave her water from a plastic bottle and she drank right away (lapping it out of the bottle). So i switched bowls with a clear bowl and she drank.

The food she still won't eat (I had it on a paper plate and she got closer at least) but you are right, it's gotta be because she's not used to it. I did get to meet her mom and dad when I picked her up and Mom still had 2 little ones in the kennel with her. I didn't happen to catch a dish but I did notice she will not eat unless it hits the ground first. She'll pull a single piece out, walk about 2 feet, drop it on the floor and then eat it.

She'll also eat from my hand so it's comforting to know she at least has a good appetite. Tomorrow i will buy one of the dishes that you mentioned, something that hangs on the crate. I'll give it a shot and let you know.

I'll also try the crushed ice Twister, I didn't even think of that (and seeing how she just LOVES eating snow I think that may do the trick).

Leo would also dig in this water dish for the longest time, if it was to big anyway. she might just need time to adjust to her new home.

We still call Grant Ole Soggy Paw because he steps in his dish when he drinks (got him a fountain so it stays clean). We joke this is a holdover from snowdog instinct to break the ice before drinking.

Kibble from dog puzzles encouraged him to eat more as a puppy. It also supports slow eating. He  would prefer being hand-fed all of his food, and I think this is a good way to establish yourself as resource provider, on the upside.

I'm glad she's eating and drinking now. What a sweetheart!

That's what I'm hoping for. I will say though, she certainly has a thing for the Fraser Christmas tree in my living room right now Cool

That's a good way of looking at it. My 3 girls have pretty much kept her from me since she got here. I think I even read here about being the one that feeds her will let her know who the alpha is.

On that subject, I've been more strict with my girls than with her so far (just with the rules I want to lay down for Eowyn so it doesn't spiral) so I can already see she acts different when I'm in the same room. I think they (and her) are realizing that this isn't 24/7 play time with the puppy. And with no accidents in the house yet I really hope it's working. She spends about 3 hours each day outside (actually playing / running, not just on her own) so I'm confident in what was said earlier: "a tired Husky is a good Husky" Very Happy

I'm Grant's mom and my son is more a playmate. Grant knows the difference. Exciting times with the new puppy, Jim! The girls must be thrilled. We have a Tegwyn (my son's Corgi), so I love Eowyn. Welsh? Looking forward to watching the fun.

Glad Eowyn is getting settled. She's adorable! Smile

That's interesting about the shiny bowls. When we first brought Misty home, she seemed confused by her shiny metal water bowl -- She kept sniffing around it, shoving her nose into it, sticking one paw into it, etc. My husband wondered if the shiny metal looked like water to her and that's why it confused her. She seemed to get used to it after a couple of days, though.
