Feeding Frequency Transition Empty
PostSubject: Feeding Frequency Transition   Feeding Frequency Transition EmptyWed Jan 10, 2018 11:24 am

Hello all!!
I am wondering when is a good time to start transitioning our guy to 2x per day feeding, and if it's now, any tips on how to do it safely/without ending up with a super cranky pooch.

Mox will be 7 months next week and is around 43#. We have been feeding him 1 cup of TOTW puppy pacific 3x per day. He used to GOBBLE his food but has relaxed some...when I say relaxed I mean he went from inhaling it in 30 seconds to taking a leisurely 2-3 minutes...

Probably unnecessary....but if it will help the "How?" advice....
Our schedule now is typically:
6am breakfast
11:30-12 lunch
4pm long walk/dog park
6pm dinner

Short walks/potty breaks are thrown in after breakfast and dinner and the final let out is somewhere between 9:30-11

Thank you in advance!!

Is Mox picking at his food, not finishing? If so then he is probably ready to go to twice a day. Tho I would say many huskies get their last major growth spurt between 7 and 8 months old, so you may have to wait just a tad bit longer. Best indicator is not finishing meals, picking at meals, or just not eating certain meals, typically the lunch meal.

No, he is definitely still a hungry hippo and finishing all of his meals. I have a feeling he might be on the slower side of development (my totally non expert opinion)...he was the last of his litter to have his ears go up and he hasn't tried lifting a leg yet (though I understand he just might not).

Would it be a terrible thing developmentally to start playing with the distribution of food? i.e. give 1.25 cups at breakfast, .5 cups at lunch, 1.25 cups at dinner?
